Title: Purchasing Manager

Location: Itasca, IL (On-Site)

Salary: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00

Job Summary The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for overseeing procurement activities, managing all material purchases to support production, aftermarket, and project-based work. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, this role will lead purchasing strategy, vendor performance initiatives, and process improvements, ensuring that material availability supports on‑time delivery, cost targets, and overall operational excellence.

This role will manage a small team (1 Buyer, and possibly 1 Purchasing Administrator) and collaborate closely with Engineering, Production, Inventory, and Accounting teams. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on procurement leader with manufacturing experience, a strategic mindset, and a passion for building strong vendor partnerships and efficient purchasing processes.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

Lead and manage all purchasing activities for both manufacturing locations, ensuring material availability aligns with production and customer schedules.

Develop and implement vendor performance metrics, driving accountability for on‑time delivery, quality, and pricing.

Identify and execute cost reduction initiatives through supplier negotiations, strategic sourcing, and process improvements.

Optimize inventory levels in coordination with production planning and inventory control to minimize delays and excess stock.

Build, document, and continuously improve purchasing processes and policies, aligned with EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) principles.

Lead the purchasing team – coaching, mentoring, and holding them accountable for results.

Collaborate with cross‑functional departments (Engineering, Production, Quality, Accounting, Field Service) to resolve supply chain issues.

Work closely with ERP and MRP systems to execute purchasing plans; assist with future ERP conversion activities.

Monitor market trends and proactively identify risks and opportunities in the supply chain.

Support management reporting with data‑driven insights on vendor performance, material costs, and lead times.

Qualifications

Minimum 10 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.

Minimum 5 years of leadership or management experience.

Strong understanding of MRP-driven purchasing and production environments.

Proven success implementing vendor performance programs and achieving measurable cost reductions.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.

Strong process documentation and improvement skills.

Experience working within structured business operating systems (EOS).

Experience supporting ERP system conversions or upgrades.

Knowledge of industrial equipment, fabrication, or OEM manufacturing supply chains.

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field.
