The Blue Bench is a community of survivors, allies, and advocates working to prevent sexual violence and build a safe and supportive metro Denver. We provide accessible, survivor‑centered support services and empowering education. Our hope is to live in a world where sexual assault no longer exists. The organization collaborates with an internally‑represented union, The Alliance of Anti‑Violence Advocates (A3) – The Blue Bench Workers United. Position Summary
The Blue Bench is seeking an Accountant to serve as the organization’s primary financial steward. This role oversees complete financial operations including accounting systems, grant management, and regulatory compliance. The position serves as Board Finance Committee liaison and collaborates with leadership on budgeting and organizational financial strategy. Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain financial records and GL; preparation of monthly A/P and A/R Prepare bank deposits, maintain related documentation, and reconcile bank statements Enter monthly journal entries and distribute financial statements and budget variance reports Prepare financial packets for monthly finance committee and bi‑monthly board review; present financial statements at board meetings Oversee annual independent financial audit, quarterly unemployment filings, annual 990, vendor 1099s, and Form 5500 Lead annual budgeting process, create and maintain agency and program budgets Maintain all grant financial activities, manage grant allocations and compliance, and submit required reports Prepare cash flow projections and respond to donor payment inquiries Manage agency credit cards, reconcile payroll, and maintain internal controls Liaise with banking relationship manager, contract accountants, auditors, and vendors Communicate financial matters to Executive Director and identify cost‑saving opportunities Payroll Responsibilities
Prepare and enter payroll; distribute checks Review and distribute annual employee W‑2s Monitor staff time sheets, PTO accruals, and maintain internal controls and policies Grants Management
Maintain grant files, track funding, and prepare monthly/quarterly financial reports Respond to grant inquiries and submit modification requests Provide financial attachments for grant submissions (budgets, statements, 990) Lead federal bi‑annual VOCA grant review Job Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in accounting (Business Administration with accounting concentration considered) CPA license preferred Commitment to social justice and the mission of The Blue Bench Five years of related experience Knowledge of nonprofit operations and GAAP accounting principles Experience with audit requirements and audit preparation Grant management and financial reporting expertise Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Computer savvy with hardware and software Detail‑oriented, organized, and reliable Ability to handle daily workload demands, multitask efficiently, and follow through on projects Strong problem‑solving, conflict resolution, and diplomatic communication abilities Compensation
Full‑time, exempt position with an annualized salary range of $60,000 – $70,000 (negotiable based on experience and qualifications). Benefits
