Position Specific Description Supports the NextEra Energy fleet, both in the regulated and deregulated markets. Responsible for improving the reliability, safety, and cost effectiveness of our fossil fleet. Must be able to conduct root cause analysis and effectively communicate recommendations to our customers from the most junior level of the organization up to and including our Executive VP team. This position’s primary focus will involve all Balance of Plant (BOP) valves. Support of valve issues that occur on other systems as well as other BOP equipment will also be periodically required.
Areas Of Responsibility
Serve as valve subject matter expert (SME) and make decisions and recommendations having significant impact on technical aspects of the company. Individuals in the role are responsible for one or more programs of such diversity and scope to be of critical importance to overall company objectives.
Plan, organize, and guide extensive technical programs and activities of outstanding novelty and/or importance focused primarily but not necessarily limited to BOP valves.
Participate in cross‑functional teams to develop, establish, and execute strategic programs to optimize BOP valve safety, performance, reliability, and life‑cycle cost.
Provide remote and onsite troubleshooting support, both in Florida and out of state with some overnight travel required.
Negotiate critical and controversial issues with internal management and vendor organizations.
Maintain professional relationships with equipment and service providers and their representatives.
Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
Conducts immediate response activities to our plants as necessary (ex. hurricane restoration).
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical Preferred)
5+ years of relevant experience
Technical
Ability to quickly digest data available from disparate sources, balance competing requirements of the organization, and provide sound technical recommendations
Critical thinking skills to apply sound engineering judgement when available data is incomplete, incorrect, or conflicting.
Detailed working knowledge of valve operation and common failure modes
General understanding of valve manufacturing, quality control, and testing processes
Well‑versed in AMSE B16.34 – Valves Flanged, Threaded and Welding End
Strong computer skills including experience with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Communication
Ability to concisely present and justify assumptions and calculations included in the technical analysis
Effective written and verbal skills; able to communicate clearly at all levels of the organization
Organization
Ability to deliver tangible results while managing multiple concurrent but unrelated tasks
Personality
Ability and willingness to work respectfully and effectively with teammates from all backgrounds
Ability and willingness to continuously learn and grow professionally
Exhibit resilience and tenacity needed to push seemingly intractable problems to resolution
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with combined‑cycle power plant operations and maintenance practices
Experience with PI ProcessBook, Maximo, PowerBI, Python, and VBA
Six Sigma Green Belt Certification

Plans and develops engineering projects concerned with unique or controversial complexities which have important impact on major company programs
Acts as technical liaison to individuals within and outside the organization with responsibility to act independently regarding technical matters pertaining to individual's field
Completes assignments given in broad terms concerning general objectives and limitations
Performs other job‑related duties as assigned
