Job Summary

Leonardo DRS Naval Power Systems (NPS) is a multi‑site operation focused on engine and power‑propulsion support for the U.S. Navy.

Three co‑op positions are available for the Spring & Summer semester (January–August 2026) in Fitchburg, MA. Job Responsibilities

Successful candidates will gain experience in stress, vibration, and shock analysis of large rotating power equipment and mechanical design of specific components, as well as mechanical design and manufacturability for large rotating power equipment.

The role involves: Working with engineers on military and industrial equipment such as steam turbine generator sets, permanent‑magnet motors for industrial and ship propulsion applications, and other large power equipment. Collaborating with engineers and shop‑floor personnel on process design, tooling development, and process documentation for new product development and continuous‑improvement changes. Basic Qualifications

U.S. citizenship Sophomore, Junior or Senior Mechanical Engineering student (or related discipline such as CAD Drafting/Design or Manufacturing Engineering). GPA 2.75 or higher Working knowledge of MS Office Completed coursework or experience with 3D CAD solid modeling & drawing development Familiarity with ASME Y14 standards, tolerancing, etc. Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple assignments effectively Teamwork skills with engineers and manufacturing personnel Self‑starter and independent working attributes Interest in developing engineering and design skills for large power equipment Salary and Benefits

The hourly rate ranges from $18 to $25 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
