Automation and Controls Engineer II The Automation and Controls Engineer II plays a key role in the plant leadership team, focusing on electrical systems, control schemes, and automation projects. This role supports ongoing operations, sets growth targets, and contributes to new plant initiatives—including a $15MM, 18-month automation modernization project. You will work closely with another Electrical & Controls Engineer and the Process Engineer, owning plant infrastructure, both low and high‑voltage components, and ensuring modernized automation systems.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain safety, product quality, and equipment effectiveness through troubleshooting and process optimization.

Lead automation and electrical improvements to enhance efficiency and reliability.

Drive continuous improvement in manufacturing processes and product quality.

Document and update legacy and new control systems.

Standardize and simplify common parts and systems.

Support corporate IT on plant infrastructure projects.

Assist HR and Safety teams with security access and camera systems.

Proactively identify obsolete systems and propose upgrade plans.

Participate in daily management meetings and ensure environmental/safety compliance.

Qualifications Required

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.

Minimum 3+ years of experience in Control Systems Engineering within a manufacturing environment.

Proficiency with Allen‑Bradley PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and servo systems.

Experience with robotic platforms (ABB, Fanuc, etc.).

Understanding of NFPA 70E electrical safety standards.

Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and leadership skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and collaborate across departments.

Preferred

Experience with Fanuc Robotics, Cognex Vision Systems, Wonderware, Genetec.

Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and ISO systems.

Proficiency with AutoCAD or Visio.

Experience using SAP or similar ERP systems.

Physical & Work Environment

Ability to work in industrial environments (climb ladders, walk on uneven surfaces, handle temperatures from hot to cold).

Frequent exposure to noise, dust, and vibration.

Must wear appropriate PPE (safety shoes, ear/eye protection, gloves, respirator as needed).

Approximately 70% office / 30% plant floor work balance.
