King County Fleet Services Division seeks a

Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic

to diagnose, repair, fabricate, and maintain mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems on a variety of off‑road construction and portable equipment. Job Duties

Diagnose and repair gas, diesel, and hybrid powered equipment including tractors, backhoes, wheel loaders, street sweepers, and trailers. Troubleshoot and repair emergency response vehicle radios, light bars, and security device systems. Perform gas and electric welding and fabrication on mobile and stationary equipment. Operate mechanical and electronic testing equipment to troubleshoot and repair systems. Maintain service, maintenance, and repair records. Modify and fabricate stock equipment to meet County needs. Repair and maintain shop tools and machinery. Provide technical assistance, direction, and advice to other workers on complex mechanical repair projects. Interpret equipment repair manuals, electric and hydraulic schematics and illustrated parts diagrams. Safely perform repairs in the field during inclement weather. Qualifications

Proficiency with industrial and heavy‑duty equipment, hydraulic, powertrain, diesel and gasoline fuel, accessory and cooling systems. Knowledge of shop safety rules, procedures, and equipment for heavy equipment repairs. Skill in using electrical, electronic, hydraulic and mechanical test equipment and devices. Skill in troubleshooting and repairing gas, diesel and hybrid engines, transmissions, hydraulic, electrical, radio, light bar and security device systems. Reading and using diagnostic tools and manuals for maintenance and repair. Ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment with onboard systems for testing and troubleshooting before and after maintenance. Work independently and in a team environment; provide coaching and mentorship to apprentices. Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, chassis and power‑train systems. Computer literacy and use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Required Certifications & Licenses

Valid Washington State Driver License and Commercial Driver’s License (Class B with Class N and Air‑Brake endorsement) with Medical Card within 6 months of hire. Pre‑employment physical and drug screen; background check. First Aid and CPR certification within 6 months of hire. King County is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Employer.
