Position Summary The Tax Senior Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing complex tax engagements, managing client relationships, and developing high‑performing teams. This position involves extensive technical expertise, strategic tax planning, and active participation in firm management initiatives. The ideal candidate combines deep tax knowledge with strong leadership, business development, and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities Client Management & Advisory

Lead and manage multiple tax engagements for corporations, partnerships, and high‑net‑worth individuals.

Provide strategic tax planning, consulting, and compliance services to clients across diverse industries.

Review complex federal, state, and local tax returns and ensure timely filing in compliance with regulatory standards.

Identify and implement tax‑saving opportunities through proactive client advisory and planning strategies.

Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, addressing questions, resolving issues, and anticipating future tax needs.

Leadership & Team Development

Supervise and mentor managers, supervisors, and staff, promoting professional growth and technical excellence.

Lead engagement planning, budgeting, and scheduling while maintaining firm profitability and client satisfaction.

Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations to develop team capabilities.

Foster a collaborative and positive team environment that aligns with the firm’s culture and values.

Technical Expertise & Quality Control

Stay current on tax law changes, IRS regulations, and emerging industry trends; share insights with internal teams.

Conduct technical reviews of tax returns and supporting workpapers to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Manage risk by enforcing firm quality control procedures and compliance with professional standards.

Support the development and implementation of process improvements and technology efficiencies within the Tax department.

Firm Leadership & Business Development

Participate actively in firm leadership initiatives, including recruiting, training, and strategic planning.

Contribute to practice growth by identifying and pursuing new client opportunities and expanding existing relationships.

Represent the firm in professional organizations, networking events, and community engagements.

Collaborate with partners to set departmental goals and contribute to the overall firm vision and strategy.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; Master’s in Taxation highly preferred.

Active CPA license required.

Minimum of 10+ years of progressive public accounting experience, with at least 3+ years in a management or senior leadership capacity.

Proven expertise in partnership, corporate, and individual taxation, including multi‑state and consolidated returns.

Strong knowledge of federal and New York State tax codes.

Proficiency in tax software such as CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx, or equivalent, and solid Excel and workflow management skills.

Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong client relationships and drive firm growth.
