The Product Development team is part of MSIM and manages portfolios of private credit, private equity, private real estate, private infrastructure, hedge fund strategies, multi‑asset alternative investments and custom accounts on behalf of institutional and high net‑worth clients.

The MSIM Alternatives Product Development team is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fund launches for private equity, private credit, real estate, infrastructure and hedge funds. The team partners with portfolio manager during the creation, design, and execution phases of these fund launches. The team leads initiatives with the sales and distribution team on competitor analysis and equips the Sales and Distribution Teams with current market updates, competitor analysis and trends to develop and maintain the product development pipeline.

This Product Development position will assist in the development and enhancement of alternatives investment products and services. The Analyst will work closely with senior team members and cross‑functional groups to help drive innovative solutions and support the successful launch and management of alternatives products.

Key Responsibilities

Work with investment team to understand strategy and opportunity

Advise investment teams on appropriate fund structures and terms based on the investment strategy, target client base and competitive intelligence.

Collect competitive intelligence—fundraising, fees and other terms as available from databases, Sales and MSWM as appropriate.

Conduct market research to gather insights on trends, customer needs, and competitive activities.

Analyze competitor research data to identify opportunities for new products or improvements to existing offerings.

Contribute to product development process through product design and launch activities including accessing sales demand, determining optimal fund structures and fund terms, preparing product approval materials and reviewing fund legal documents.

Establish a working group including investment team, sales and all support functions (e.g., Operations, Tax, Marketing, Legal and Compliance, Risk, Finance, Client Services, Technology) and manage periodic working group meetings to ensure smooth product development and adherence to product launch timelines.

Assist in tracking product performance and preparing reports on key metrics and findings.

Determine fund terms in conjunction with the investment team, sales and MSWM as appropriate, and as informed by competitor data.

Utilize data analysis tools for decision‑making and product enhancements.

Assist MS Wealth Management (MSWM) on their investment and operational due diligence process, including coordination of meetings with investment team and other team members, providing all requested information, responding to questions, and participating in MSWM’s approval meetings as requested.

Provide support in organizing meetings, presentations, and special projects as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field.

5–9 years of experience in product development, product strategy, financial analysis, or a related role within the banking or financial services industry.

Strong analytical, problem‑solving, organizational and project management skills.

Proven interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards is a plus.

Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Experience with data analysis tools is a plus.

Prior alternatives experience preferred.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $125,000 and $225,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short‑ and long‑term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley‑sponsored benefit programs.
