Conduit Power
Project Engineer - BESS
Conduit Power is on a path to supplement our Nation’s power generation system with reliable and dispatchable generation in ways that reduce carbon footprint and accelerate the transition to clean, renewable energy.
We are seeking a technically skilled and motivated
Project Engineer
with proven expertise in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to lead and support the design, development, and execution of BESS and natural gas fired generation projects. This role will be responsible for managing engineering activities from concept through commissioning, ensuring alignment with safety, performance, and best‑in‑class design standards.
If you Are:
Keenly interested in our economy’s transition to clean, renewable energy
A driven professional seeking a career growth opportunity
Takes pride in presenting a high‑quality work project
Flexibility to wear different hats and adapt to new tasks; seeking to join a small and close‑knit team dedicated to delivering high‑quality projects
An avid learner, curious and self‑taught, eager to expand your skill set
A critical thinker who understands and organizes information that is often technical in nature and communicates it in concise, well‑written, and compelling professional language
A direct and articulate communicator who strives to build strong relationships with colleagues based on mutual respect
You Will:
Manage the full engineering lifecycle of power generation and BESS projects: early scoping, detailed design, procurement specifications, construction technical support, and commissioning leadership; serve as lead technical contact for assigned projects.
Serve as subject matter expert for BESS systems, including controls and software components such as BMS, EMS, PCS, balance of plant (BOP) controls integration, etc.
Perform degradation and life‑cycle modeling of battery systems to forecast performance, support warranty validation, and optimize asset performance.
Review and develop engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation, driving integration across electrical, mechanical, and controls/SCADA disciplines to ensure seamless interface between BESS components, gas‑fired generation, and other systems.
Conduct engineering design reviews at key milestones (30%, 60%, 90%, IFC) and manage timely resolution of comments and revisions.
Optimize hybrid (natural gas + BESS) systems for reliability and cost‑effectiveness.
Collaborate with internal and external engineering teams, vendors, contractors, and construction crews to ensure adherence to design objectives and compliance with OEM manuals, design constraints, performance curves, and safety recommendations.
Lead technical evaluation of equipment bids and vendor proposals, including BESS modules, inverters, transformers, control and protection systems, switchgear, etc.
Develop and refine scopes of work, RFQs, design specifications, and procedures to support cross‑departmental alignment.
Supervise quality testing, validation, and troubleshooting of OEM equipment, both in factory and field environments.
Problem‑solve creatively and investigate ways to improve engineering workflows, documentation, and cross‑team collaboration.
Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and methodologies in the energy storage, oil & gas, and renewable energy sectors.
What You Bring to the Team:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
4+ years engineering experience in BESS systems, power generation, transmission & distribution, renewables, or related fields.
Proven experience and expertise with BESS systems is a must.
Proven knowledge of low‑ and medium‑voltage electrical infrastructure and equipment.
Familiarity with power generation, load flow, transmission & distribution, renewables, protective relaying, communication protocols, and proficiency with sizing electrical equipment.
