Celestica
Direct message the job poster from Celestica
The Senior Product Engineer is the critical technical liaison between customer design teams and Celestica's global manufacturing floor, specializing in the industrialization of complex, high-reliability products. This role requires a proven track record (6+ years) in New Product Introduction (NPI) and manufacturing process optimization, ensuring product designs are robust, scalable, and cost-effective for high-volume production.
Responsibilities
New Product Introduction (NPI) Leadership:
Lead the technical release of new products, translating design requirements into robust, controlled manufacturing processes. Oversee pilot runs, process qualification (PQ), and transition to high-volume manufacturing (HVM).
Design for Excellence (DFX):
Serve as the DFX expert, analyzing customer product designs and providing costed, optimized feedback on manufacturability, testability, assembly, and sourcing early in the design cycle to prevent downstream issues.
Product Master Data Ownership:
Manage and maintain the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of product master data, including complex Bills of Materials (BOMs) and detailed Manufacturing Routes within ERP (e.g., SAP) and MES systems.
Change Management:
Manage the timely and accurate implementation of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), ensuring synchronization across all systems, documentation, and the production floor.
Quality and Yield Improvement:
Lead complex root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action (8D methodology) for recurring production failures, field returns, and critical yield excursions. Implement permanent process controls based on statistical analysis.
Process Development & Control:
Design, plan, and execute Design of Experiments (DOE) to assess process capability and optimize key manufacturing parameters (e.g., SMT profiles, final assembly tolerances). Establish and monitor Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner effectively with Design Engineering, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, and Production teams globally to resolve technical roadblocks and meet customer delivery goals.
Technical Expertise:
Deep knowledge of electronics manufacturing processes, including PCBA (SMT, wave soldering), high-level assembly (HLA), functional test development, and box-build operations.
Data Systems:
Proficiency in ERP (e.g., SAP) and MES systems. Expert ability to manage and query complex BOM structures and manufacturing data.
Quality Methodologies:
Expertise in root cause analysis (8D, fishbone), Statistical Process Control (SPC), and Lean Manufacturing principles (e.g., 5S, Six Sigma).
DFX Tools:
Demonstrated ability to utilize DFM/DFA software and apply principles to high-mix, high-complexity products.
Leadership & Communication:
Strong project management, technical leadership, and mentoring skills. Excellent written and verbal communication to effectively interact with customers and multi-site internal teams.
Education:
Knowledge of IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 standards is a plus.
Physical Demands
Frequent extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on computer monitors or detailed data.
Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, mouse use) are frequently required.
Occasional standing and walking on the manufacturing floor, which may expose the employee to noise, dust, and temperature variations.
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move light test equipment.
Typical Experience Minimum of
6+ years
of progressive experience in Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related technical role within the Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS), High-Tech, or high-reliability manufacturing industry.
