Project Accountant / Senior Project Accountant
Join our team at MIG Los Angeles. We are seeking an experienced professional to be our Project Accountant or Senior Project Accountant in our Berkeley, CA office. The ideal candidate is skilled in professional services/consulting accounting and financial reporting functions, proficient with Deltek Vision and Vantage Point, and is interested in growth and longevity with MIG.
Responsibilities
Collaborative Teammate: Work as part of a cross‑office, cross‑discipline team of professional planners, designers, and technical staff who provide consulting to private non‑profit, public agencies and private sector clients.
Billing and Administration: Play an integral role in office billing and related administration, collaborating with office leadership and the Business Office in Berkeley.
Day‑to‑day Accounting Transactions:
Project accounting, invoicing and billing: Generate monthly invoices, coordinate with PMs and Principals for changes, submit invoices to clients, and process sub‑consultant A/P invoices. Provide support to the Brooklyn, NY office remotely with AR/AP, billing, payroll and general administrative tasks.
Project set‑up in Deltek: Create the project team, budgets, phases/tasks, and sub‑consultants.
Financial health, A/R reporting and unbilled invoices: Analyze and report, monitor and resolve accounting issues with PMs and Principals, report monthly unbilled services balance, assist in recovering losses, and prepare monthly Financial Health Reports in Deltek.
Contracts: Ensure contract compliance, track signatures and end dates, and coordinate with PMs and Principals for additional services or change letters.
Back‑up Project Accounting: Support others in the accounting/billing team when they are on vacation or short‑staffed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in any field (degree in accounting, business management or related field is a plus).
8+ years of relevant experience in accounting, managing project budgets and office finances for a $5 M+ company or department.
Experience in the A/E or consulting industry is highly preferred; familiarity with Federal Accounting Rules (FAR) and consulting or design‑build contracts is preferred.
Proficiency in professional services accounting software (Deltek Vision and Vantage Point required), Adobe PDF, Word and Excel; experience with Deltek Aljera and/or Google Suite is a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, discretion in confidential matters, and the ability to interact tactfully with internal team members and external clients.
Professional, approachable demeanor, positive attitude, sense of urgency, and dedication to completing tasks on time.
Trainable/coachable, proactive, organized, efficient, adaptable, and ready to pitch in to help others.
