Aerospace Systems Safety Engineer (Experienced, Senior, or Lead) Boeing

– Boeing Defense Space & Security (BDS) is hiring a System Safety Engineer at levels 3, 4, or 5 (Experienced, Senior, or Lead). The role supports the Space, Intelligence & Weapons (SI&WS) team and focuses on the safety of our manned and unmanned space portfolio.

Overview System Safety Engineers are integral to the entire product lifecycle, collaborating with technology investment, concept development, requirement definition, design, and fielding teams. They identify, analyze, mitigate, and verify safety hazards for Boeing products.

Primary Responsibilities

Evaluate customer specifications and regulations to develop safety requirements, constraints, and operating limits.

Develop System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs) as required.

Perform hazard analyses across the full product lifecycle, including PHA, SSHA, O&SHA, FHA, software safety hazard analysis, and FTA.

Review engineering design specifications, test and manufacturing operations, change proposals, anomaly reports, and deviation/waiver requests for potential safety impacts.

Collaborate with government, customer, and program domain experts.

Prepare presentations, analyses, and reports for government/customer safety boards, program design reviews, and test/mission readiness reviews.

Develop proposals, work statements, and specifications affecting system safety engineering scope and budget.

Deliver oral and written system safety and risk presentations to peers, program management, senior leadership, customers, and regulatory agencies.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or a non‑US equivalent directly related to the role.

Level 3: 5+ years of related experience or equivalent education/experience.

Level 4: 9+ years of related experience or equivalent.

Level 5: 14+ years of related experience or equivalent.

Demonstrated project engineering experience with SOW development and execution (scope definition, decomposition, change assessment, resource/schedule planning).

3+ years of experience in Systems Safety, Systems Engineering, and/or Product Design.

Preferred Qualifications

Active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required). A clearance active within the last 24 months is considered active.

Experience with NASA and/or DoD team projects such as trade studies, design work, or safety analysis.

Experience with System Safety standards: MIL‑STD‑882E, NASA STD 8719.8, ARP4761A, ARP4754A, DO‑178C.

Effective communication and teamwork skills with a focus on first‑time quality.

Proficiency in Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Proficiency with system safety analysis tools (e.g., BowTieXP, Reliability Workbench, FaultTree+, Hazard Tracking System).

Proficiency with Model‑Based Engineering (e.g., Cameo/MSOSA and SysML).

Security & Clearance Requires ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance; interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance post‑start is required. U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.

Export Control Requirements

Position must meet U.S. export control compliance (22 C.F.R. § 120.15).

Pay Range (by Level)

Level 3 (Experienced): $107,100 – $155,250

Level 4 (Senior): $129,200 – $187,450

Level 5 (Lead): $154,700 – $224,250
