Summary Responsible for architecting, implementing, and supporting thermal system solutions for AI‑centric networking and compute systems. You will develop hardware solutions integrated into platform designs including processors, high‑speed serial interfaces, high‑power delivery networks, NPUs, GPUs, CPUs, FPGAs, and memory. Work with hardware, firmware, mechanical, power, and validation engineers to drive end‑to‑end thermal design from rack level to board‑level heat sink/cold plate solutions. You will collaborate across disciplines to ensure thermal designs meet system specifications.
Skills & Responsibilities
Engage with customers and key suppliers on leading thermal solution architecture for high‑power systems such as AI/ML.
Act as a recognized thermal SME and trusted advisor to customers and internal stakeholders.
Participate in the systems team for early engagement with customers on system design concepts and requirements.
Develop thermal solution concepts with critical insights into trade‑offs, risks, and benefits.
Drive thermal technology roadmap initiatives with ecosystems, early customer engagement, and internal investment activities.
Develop and validate thermal system requirements between customers and engineering.
Provide oversight, guidance, and review of thermal development activity within engineering to ensure alignment to requirements and to mitigate key risks.
Leverage experience with high‑power density cooling solutions, liquid cooling, advanced cold plate and cooling loop design for efficient tray and rack‑level thermal design, including simulations, analysis, test vehicles, and test plans.
Apply alternative and emerging cooling strategies, evaluating trade‑offs, benefits, and challenges.
Support engineering technical leads, thermal, power, and SI engineers on constraints, component selection, thermal design, test plans, bring‑up, and debug as needed.
Participate in industry organizations and supplier engagements to drive leading‑edge power solutions.
Experience
10+ years relevant industry experience.
Strong user of Flotherm CFD analysis tool; transient analysis experience is a plus.
Expert in various heat sinks, heat pipe, vapor chamber design/selection, liquid cooling, or other advanced cooling technology.
In‑depth experience with fan speed control methodology and over‑temperature protection mechanisms.
Expertise with thermal measurement technology and test tools such as temperature data loggers, IR cameras, wind tunnels, and air speed meters.
Advanced knowledge of mechanical design tools such as Pro/e (considered a plus).
Advanced knowledge of server/storage/switch system architecture (considered a plus).
Broad knowledge of industry standards including SBB, NEBS, GR‑63, ASHRAE TC9.9, etc.
Strong customer communications and technical engagement skills; ability to act as a trusted advisor in early concept and execution discussions.
Experience in product development from prototype to mass production.
Ability to grasp existing designs quickly and work independently with minimal supervision.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to produce specifications and test plans.
Experience with failure mode analysis.
Physical Demands
Normal office environment.
Extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or detailed data.
Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, computer mouse use, calculator).
Occasional travel may be required.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; Master’s preferred.
