Job Description Optometrist responsibilities include analyzing vision tests, diagnosing potential vision impairments, and prescribing corrective lenses and eyeglasses. To be successful, the optometrist should be detail oriented, able to treat patients of all ages with kindness and discretion, and ultimately ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases and injuries.
Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive eye exams and vision tests
Diagnose defects of the eye, such as myopia, astigmatism, and glaucoma
Provide personalized temporary and permanent solutions to visual impairments based on each patient’s specific case and medical history
Prescribe medications, eyeglasses, and contact lenses
Advise patients on proper eye care techniques
Keep updated and accurate medical records for all patients
Advise patients on how to use and maintain contact lenses
Co-manage patients with local ophthalmologists
Requirements
Degree in Optometry, or currently enrolled in your 4th year of Optometry school
In-depth understanding of eye conditions and vision defects
Ability to explain medical terms in a clear and concise manner
Patient-focused attitude
To be considered, you need to be a licensed optometrist, in the process of acquiring your license, or currently enrolled as a fourth-year student in an accredited School of Optometry
