Associate Civil Engineer – MacKay & Somps Civil Engineers, Inc.
Location: Pleasanton, CA
Base pay range: $50.00/hr – $65.00/hr
MacKay & Somps is seeking a qualified Associate Civil Engineer to join our Pleasanton office. The role requires a B.S. in Civil Engineering or a related field from an ABET‑accredited university. Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in California is preferred. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
Associate Civil Engineers work under the general direction of senior staff on a wide range of land development and public infrastructure projects, including residential, commercial, mixed‑use, sanitary sewer, water supply, water resources, and storm drainage projects. Assignments may include supervision of junior staff, AutoCAD Civil 3D design and drafting, grading and earthwork design, hydrology/hydraulics calculations, and coordination with public agencies and other consultants.
Desired Skills & Experience
Minimum of 4 years experience in land development or public infrastructure design in California.
Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Some project management experience (e.g., client and agency communication, coordination with team consultants, submittal compilation, project scheduling, proposal writing).
Competence in hydrology & hydraulic modeling is a plus.
Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
Familiarity with MS Office, MS Project, HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, XP‑Storm, and WaterCAD Version 8i.
