Security Officer
– Texas A&M University - Commerce, Commerce, Texas Job Summary Serve and protect the university by assisting law enforcement in reporting crimes and suspicious activity, maintaining security presence to deter crime, and enforcing parking regulations. Job Title : Security Officer Agency : Texas A&M University – Commerce Department : University Police Location : Commerce, Texas Type : Part‑time, Staff Salary : Hourly $15.00, commensurate with experience Key Responsibilities Patrol designated areas to prevent, discover, and deter crime. Report incidents that require police action to communications or officers. Document irregularities, emergencies, and suspicious activity. Provide detailed written reports of any criminal activity witnessed. Issue parking citations, direct traffic flow, and assist with parking vehicles. Apply vehicle immobilization devices and assist motorists per parking procedures. Inspect buildings and grounds for fires, water leaks, and general security. Unlock and lock buildings according to university schedules. Provide information and services to visitors, students, and faculty. Work special events as required or scheduled by the supervisor. Contribute to team management of all relevant problems, issues, and opportunities. Maintain a professional image on and off duty, follow social media guidelines, and avoid intoxication in public. Perform additional duties assigned to maintain operations and services. Minimum Requirements High‑school diploma or GED. Strong understanding of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and laws. Computer keyboard skills and ability to prepare accurate reports. Effective verbal communication via radio and ability to handle critical situations. Logical decision‑making and ability to plan, organize, and coordinate independent work. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Physical ability to walk, climb stairs, and lift up to 25 lbs. Other Requirements Security officers must wear uniforms, which are provided. Applicants must be able to work any shift or time assigned by the Texas A&M-Commerce Police Department. Criminal Background Requirements Any felony conviction, felony deferred adjudication, Class A misdemeanor conviction or deferred adjudication, or family violence conviction disqualifies the applicant. Any open arrest for a felony or misdemeanor disqualifies the applicant until disposition. Class B misdemeanor conviction or deferred adjudication: 10‑year disqualification.
