RYAN, HODGINS & ASSOCIATES CPAS
Base pay range: $85,000.00/yr - $175,000.00/yr
Additional compensation types: Annual Bonus
Director of Acquisitions | Talent, M&A, Special Projects Your path to equity partner feels a decade away. You’re buried in compliance, navigating bureaucracy, and wondering when you’ll finally get to lead client relationships and build something of your own.
At Ryan, Hodgins & Associates, the path to ownership isn’t a vague promise. It’s a 3- to 5-year strategic plan.
We are not a typical CPA firm. We are a boutique tax consultancy built on a single premise: delivering elite technical mastery through deep, lasting relationships. We’ve built a thriving practice by serving as the primary confidants to successful business owners, wealthy families, and family offices across the Twin Cities and the nation. Now, with a senior partner preparing for succession, we are seeking our next owner.
This is not a senior manager role. This is an accelerated path to equity for a tax technician who is also a natural relationship builder. You will inherit a portfolio of high‑value clients, receive direct mentorship from our founding partners, and be given the platform and autonomy to build your own durable practice. We will open the doors; you will own the growth.
What You Will Own & Drive
Client Leadership & Strategy:
Architect and implement high‑impact tax strategies for closely held businesses, complex trusts, and high‑net‑worth families, focusing on entity design, succession planning, M&A structuring, and multi‑state issues.
Relationship Architecture:
Serve as the lead relationship architect for an inherited portfolio of clients, becoming their first call for complex financial decisions and stewarding multi‑generational wealth transfer strategies.
Practice Growth:
Design and execute a business development plan, cultivating a network of attorneys, private bankers, and family office advisors to build your personal book of business.
Technical Excellence:
Act as the firm’s subject matter expert, translating evolving tax law into actionable client roadmaps and mentoring junior staff to elevate the firm’s technical capabilities.
Cultural Leadership:
Set the pace for quality, accountability, and client care, modeling the service‑mindful, high‑trust ethos that defines our practice.
Required Qualifications (The Non‑Negotiables)
Public Accounting Foundation:
Background in public accounting with direct experience in tax consulting and planning for corporate, partnership, individual, and trust/estate clients.
CPA License:
An active CPA license is strongly preferred. Candidates with demonstrable, active progress toward certification (e.g., at least one exam section passed or scheduled) will be considered.
Technical Depth:
Proven expertise in entity structuring, multi‑state tax issues, succession planning, and complex estate/transfer strategies.
Growth Mindset:
Tangible desire and evidenced ability to originate client relationships and build a book of business.
Preferred Qualifications (The Accelerators)
Advanced education such as an MBT, MST, JD, or LL.M in Taxation.
Professional designations including PFS or CFP.
Specific experience navigating Minnesota’s estate and trust landscape.
Proficiency with professional tax software (e.g., UltraTax, CCH Axcess) and QuickBooks.
The RHA Difference We are an entrepreneurial, faith‑informed firm built for the long term. Here, you will find direct access to partners, small‑firm agility, and genuine work‑life balance—we do not believe in 80‑hour workweeks. We believe in providing our clients and our team with stewardship, humility, and an environment where expertise and relationships can flourish. This is a rare opportunity to build a life’s work, not just hold a job.
To Apply Please submit your resume for immediate consideration. We are looking to fill this pivotal role quickly.
