Overview We’re seeking a highly skilled
AWS Cloud Engineers (Backend Focus)
to join a small, fast-moving engineering team delivering secure, scalable, and data-intensive cloud applications for both government and commercial environments. This role requires deep technical fluency with AWS services, backend system design, and automation. You’ll architect and deploy backend systems that handle complex data, integrate across multiple APIs, and meet high standards of reliability and security.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs hosted on AWS (ECS, Lambda, EKS, API Gateway, RDS, DynamoDB, etc.).
Implement and manage Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK).
Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines using AWS CodePipeline, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI.
Integrate microservices with authentication, logging, and event-driven architectures (SNS/SQS/EventBridge).
Ensure system reliability, observability, and performance through CloudWatch, X-Ray, and distributed tracing.
Maintain strong security posture using IAM roles, encryption, Secrets Manager, and network segmentation (VPC, subnets, NAT, security groups).
Collaborate cross-functionally with frontend and DevOps engineers to support seamless integration and deployment.
Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and agile development cycles.
Research and implement new AWS capabilities, ensuring continuous improvement and cost optimization.
Be willing to undergo a government background investigation if required for project work.
Required Technical Skills
Strong proficiency with
AWS core services : Lambda, ECS/EKS, API Gateway, RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB, S3, CloudFront, IAM, CloudWatch.
Advanced skills in
backend development
using
Node.js ,
Python , or
Go .
Experience deploying infrastructure using
Terraform ,
CloudFormation , or
AWS CDK .
Solid understanding of
networking
(VPC, subnets, routing, load balancing, security groups).
Proven experience with
CI/CD pipelines , Git-based workflows, and automated testing.
Proficiency with
Docker
and container orchestration (ECS/Fargate or EKS).
Familiarity with both
REST
and
GraphQL APIs .
Comfortable working in
Linux
and command-line environments.
Prior experience supporting
DoD or federal software projects
(Plus).
Active or eligible
Security Clearance
(Plus).
Preferred / Bonus Skills
Serverless application frameworks
(Serverless Framework, SAM).
Experience with
Kinesis ,
Kafka , or event streaming architectures.
Knowledge of
PostgreSQL ,
Aurora , or
NoSQL performance tuning .
Familiarity with
Zero Trust ,
FedRAMP , or secure enclave architectures.
Experience with
