Job Description:
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will lead and supervise Process and Controls Engineers and work directly with Production Leadership to design, implement and maintain Lean Manufacturing systems.
The role focuses on sustaining or improving safety, quality, throughput and efficiency while operating in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.

The successful candidate is expected to report to Tonawanda on a full‑time basis.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
Lead and manage a team of trained Mechanical and Electrical Engineers.
Support and adhere to corporate and plant safety policies.
Maintain strong relationships with Production and Maintenance teams to support day‑to‑day needs on the production floor.
Provide technical support for manufacturing operations.
Engineer, design, build, implement and maintain machinery, tools & equipment.
Create and maintain Process Flow Diagrams, Control Plans and PFMEAs.
Manage significant downtime events by delivering technical guidance and support.
Design work operations that meet safety, quality, and efficiency requirements with high integrity.
Drive continuous improvement efforts through waste elimination.
Evaluate bottleneck areas and support throughput and productivity improvements.
Support change‑management projects by developing and participating in production trials.
Reduce total cost by improving productivity metrics related to equipment uptime, cycle time, and quality.
Participate in lean manufacturing through implementation of GM's Global Manufacturing System.
Coach and teach lean manufacturing principles to production floor team members and other engineers.
Support implementation and training for standardized work development.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
BS in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering/Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
5+ years of assembly or machining process development experience in manufacturing or manufacturing engineering with plant‑floor exposure.
Solid understanding of high‑volume manufacturing & assembly processes.
Experience troubleshooting equipment (problem solving/debugging).
Understanding of pneumatic, mechanical, and control drawings.
Understanding / application of part locating, mechanics, machine design, and PLC control architecture.
Understanding of theory of constraints.
Experience with time‑cycle diagrams and man/machine charts.
Practical problem‑solving skills (formal training or practical application).
Ability and willingness to work any shift, including non‑standard hours, weekends, and holidays.
Up to 25% travel required.
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Demonstrated understanding of plant floor and design for manufacturability.
Successful individual or team‑based achievements in manufacturing engineering.
Knowledge of AutoCAD, Team Center, Microsoft Project, simulation.
Competency in GD&T.
Formal statistical problem‑solving training.
Experience with PFMEAs, simulation, fastening equipment, servo presses, sealing dispensers, cameras, error‑proofing devices.
Experience in process development, specification, procurement and qualification of equipment & tooling.
Documentation of standardized work procedures.
Adaptability to different interpersonal styles and communication methods.
Project and time management experience.
Union environment experience.
Experience with BOE, BOP, BOSE, BOO.
Interest in and ability to apply agile methodologies.
Computer literacy, interpretation of mechanical and electrical drawings, learning new systems.
Experience in Lean manufacturing implementation and continuous improvement.
Self‑motivated with a continuous improvement focus.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective partnership.
Ability to manage multiple complex projects autonomously.
Compensation
Base salary: $122,000.00 – $168,800.00 USD annually (range specific to position details).
Bonus potential: incentive pay based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
