Overview As a Principal Geotechnical / Civil Engineer on GFT’s Geotechnical, Dams & Hydraulics team, you will lead complex water resources projects across the United States, integrating technical expertise with business development and client relationship management. The role is remote, with preference for candidates located in the following U.S. cities:

Responsibilities
Independently design and lead major projects.
Manage large multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors.
Plan scope, resources, schedule, and budgets for complex projects.
Apply extensive engineering knowledge to evaluate techniques, procedures, and analyses.
Perform dam and levee safety inspections and assessments.
Provide construction support: bid assistance, construction observation, coordination with contractors, managing field changes, and project close‑out.
Review project documents for conformity and quality assurance.
Conduct business development: generate leads, pursue opportunities, and develop new markets.
Build and maintain client relationships, assessing client needs and managing expectations.
Mentor junior staff and manage technical teams.
Develop new techniques or improve processes.
Lead project meetings, present engineering assignments, and represent the firm at conferences.
Assign tasks, direct junior consultants and technicians.
Supervise technical staff and train them on specialty software.
Support senior management with business programs and organizational initiatives.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution.
15+ years of increasing responsibility in geotechnical or civil engineering.
Experience in project management on multidisciplinary teams and client/business development.
Professional Engineering license in one of the listed states or ability to obtain via comity.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MS Office, and similar programs.
Expert knowledge of slope stability, seepage analysis, seepage control, and dam & levee design.
Proficiency in reviewing and preparing reports, plans, specifications, and estimates.
Knowledge of specialized analysis programs (GeoStudio, Mathcad, etc.).
Expert knowledge of H&H modeling, stormwater management, and flood risk mitigation.
Proficiency in HEC‑HMS, HEC‑RAS, and similar programs.
Preferred Qualifications
Master of Science in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution.
Previous approval as a FERC Independent Consultant or Subject Matter Expert.
Knowledge of deep foundation design and/or landslide stabilization.
Proficiency in LifeSim, RMC‑RFA, Arc‑GIS, and RMC‑BestFit software.
Compensation Salary range: $140,000 – $190,000, dependent on experience and geographic location.
