The UTMB physical therapy program is the oldest in the state of Texas with a strong alumni base. UTMB student body is praised as one of the most diverse in the country.

Current faculty members have clinical research agendas focused on acquired brain injury, stroke, women’s health, global health initiatives, movement disorders, patient centered outcomes, and the use of technology in clinical and community settings to improve outcomes for persons with mobilitydisabilities.

The University provides a dynamic academic environment that fosters strong collaborative and interprofessional efforts within university hospitals, theSchool of Public and Population Health, the Center for Health Promotion, Performance and Rehabilitation Research, the Sealy Center on Aging, School of Nursing, School of Medicine, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Shriners, Texas Children’s, and the Texas Medical Center, a collaborative ecosystem of healthcare institutions, research centers, and innovation hubs.

The department provides Residential, PTA to DPT Bridge, and Hybrid DPT programs, with opportunities to teach within all programs and support students in global health and community clinic experiences. We work together with the UTMB Rehabilitation Services clinical department and faculty can engage in clinical practice and research in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

From the Gulf Coast beaches of Galveston to Houston, the fourth largest city in the US, the area offers a wealth of educational, cultural, and recreational activities along with a reasonable cost of living.

Qualifications The successful candidate will have an academic doctorate (e.g., PhD) in a physical therapy or related field and the potential to make strong contributions to the program’s research efforts. Candidates with prior research or clinical expertise in pediatrics, cardiopulmonary, acute care, or geriatrics preferred, as well as with two or more years of teaching experience in DPT programs or related fields.

Responsibilities The program has need for faculty expertise in teaching and learning in areas of pediatric or general. However, applications are welcome from candidates in any specialization. Responsibilities of this new faculty member may include teaching within areas of interest and expertise; university, community, and professional service; mentoring of students; clinical practice, and ongoing scholarly activity.
