Job Summary The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is one of the nation’s premier academic pediatric programs. Clinical and educational programs are consistently rated among the top ten nationally by US News and World Report and the Department is a leader among Child Health research programs, ranking second in the nation among National Institutes of Health funded Pediatric Departments with over $66 million in active NIH awards. The Section of Hospital Medicine has a diverse faculty with a strong presence in both clinical services and research. We are looking for an inspirational leader with a vision towards advancing the mission of the Section as a premier program for Hospital Medicine clinical care, research, and education.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee programmatic and financial operations of the Section to ensure financial and human resources support research, clinical care, educational, and advocacy/policy activities.
Develop innovative clinical, educational and research programs to enhance local standing and national reputation of the Section.
Supervise the Section’s educational and clinical training programs, including residents, medical students, and fellows.
Support faculty recruitment and infrastructure for faculty development.
Build and maintain partnerships with affiliate institutions and community organizations locally, nationally, and internationally.
Facilitate collaboration among faculty members to expand research funding and diversify research funding sources.
Establish strong metrics and outcomes for clinical and academic performance.
Facilitate collaboration across all mission areas with other sections within the Department of Pediatrics, as well as other departments within the University of Colorado School of Medicine and other health sciences related units.
Work Location Onsite – Aurora, Colorado – role expected to work onsite.

Section physician and advanced practice provider faculty provide inpatient care of hospitalized children with general and complex pediatric medical conditions. They also provide hospital co‑management and consultation for hospitalized surgical patients. The Section also partners extensively with many other hospital systems across the State of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region in the delivery of high‑quality inpatient care to children.
The Section’s educational program includes a two‑year ACGME accredited Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship Program, extensive pediatric residency training rotations, and robust participation in the School of Medicine’s pediatric clerkship curriculum for third year and fourth year medical students. The Section has also developed an innovative faculty teaching program known as “TEAM” (Teaching Excellence Among Medical Providers), consisting of a core group of expert faculty medical educators. TEAM provides a structured educational experience for various levels of learners in hospital medicine. The program utilizes direct observation and feedback as a teaching strategy for learners in clinical and non‑clinical settings.
On the research front, the portfolio of the Section includes efforts focused on improving health outcomes, health system care models, comparative effectiveness, medical education, surgical outcomes, quality improvement, and clinical documentation improvement.

Independent care provider highly skilled in management of Hospital Medicine services for pediatric patients
Experience working with diverse patient populations
Experience with and commitment to faculty career development through mentoring
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in pediatrics program development, strong clinical skills, significant accomplishments in research, proven administrative and leadership abilities, and a strong commitment to education.
Experience building constructive relationships and ensuring cohesiveness among various entities, programs, and groups.
Experience working and leading within an academic institution.
