About This Role The Plating/Coating Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, establishing control and maintaining surface treatment and coating processes used in the manufacturing of magnetic materials and components. This role ensures that all plating and coating operations meet required specifications for quality, performance, safety, and cost-effectiveness. The Plating/Coating Engineer will collaborate closely with Production, Quality, and R&D to improve process capability, troubleshoot issues, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

What You’ll Be Doing

Developing and implementing plating and coating processes for new and existing products, ensuring compliance with technical and quality specifications

Establishing Process Controls to ensure adequate capability.

Monitoring and optimizing process parameters to achieve consistent coating thickness, adhesion, and corrosion resistance.

Troubleshooting process issues and identifying root causes using data‑driven methodologies such as DOE, SPC, or Six Sigma tools.

Collaborating with Quality and Production teams to resolve nonconformances and implementing corrective actions.

Maintaining and improving chemical bath composition, including monitoring solution chemistry, replenishment, and waste management.

Evaluating and qualifying new materials, chemicals, and equipment for use in plating and coating applications.

Developing and maintaining process documentation, including work instructions, control plans, and preventive maintenance schedules.

Ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations related to chemical handling, waste disposal, and ventilation systems.

Supporting cost reduction and yield improvement initiatives while maintaining product integrity and reliability.

Training production operators and technicians on process standards, safety, and equipment operation.

We Are Looking For Someone Who

Has a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field.

Has 3–5 years of experience in electroplating, electroless plating, PVD/CVD coating, or similar surface finishing processes (preferably in a manufacturing environment).

Can display a strong understanding of plating chemistry, surface preparation, and process control.

Has experience with analytical testing methods such as XRF, microscopy, or adhesion and corrosion testing.

Possesses knowledge of ISO 9001 or similar quality systems.

Is proficient in data analysis, process documentation, and statistical process control.

Has excellent problem‑solving, communication, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.

Physical Requirements

This position involves both office and production floor work.

Can wear PPE.

Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

Comfortable standing for long periods of time, up to and exceeding 60 minutes.

Is capable of making repetitive movements, including, but not limited to, sitting, squatting and walking up and down stairs.

Exposure to chemicals and process equipment is typical for this role.
