Job Summary:
The Substance Use Disorder Professional role is part of the Behavioral Health and Counseling team that supports ETS’ mission through serving as the primary care team coordinator for their assigned patients.
This role provides assigned patients with assessment, individual and group counseling, case management and coordinates overall patient care while enrolled at Evergreen Treatment Services.
Responsibilities
Help ETS succeed in carrying out our mission through working together with other staff to transform systems of harm and inequity, creating different approaches to improving community health and safety by addressing substance use and homelessness.
Assist with the organization-wide initiative to reimagine our interconnectedness within our community and overcome aspects of society underpinned by white supremacy and settler colonialism.
Consistently implement established agency policies and treatment procedures regarding work with assigned patients.
Provide initial assessment, individual and group counseling, and case management services to assigned patients.
Maintain professional boundaries with patients and coworkers.
Promptly and accurately complete progress notations of all interactions with patients in assigned patient files.
Prepare and submit the following documentation: initial assessment and treatment plan, 90‑day treatment plan, responses to positive urinalysis / breathalyzer results, administrative taper notices, letters of assistance and referral, closing treatment summaries for discharged patients, daily activity forms, and required state and agency recording forms (e.g., TARGET reports).
Act consistently to protect the confidentiality of all patients and the integrity of professional staff communication and behavior.
Adhere to 42 CFR Part 2 federal regulations pertaining to chemical dependency treatment records.
Serve as a leader or co‑leader of therapy or educational groups and provide other treatment activities.
Meet with primary supervisor for patient clinical consultation and skill development, or other designated staff for reviewing documentation and planning.
Coordinate assigned patient treatment with other staff departments (e.g., dispensary, reception, medical, and psychiatric staff).
Participate in the Counselor of the day program.
Participate in Treatment Team meetings to review patient progress, address appeals, and discuss program compliance issues.
May observe patient urine collection for drug screen urinalysis when needed.
Some local travel may be required on behalf of the agency.
For SUDP Trainee
Directly responsible to and supervised by a Clinical Supervisor who is a Department of Health licensed Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP). Also supervised by Lead Counselors, who hold an SUDP license, regarding clinical skill development, specified record keeping, and treatment tasks.
Participate in at least two 30‑minute sessions of individual supervision per 160 hours of work with the Clinical Supervisor until attaining the Department of Health SUDP credential.
Complete an initial 50 hours of direct patient service under direct observation and supervision of the primary supervisor or other assigned SUDP‑licensed counselors.
Note: New and/or different duties and responsibilities may be assigned to this job at any time.
Qualifications Credential:
SUDP‑Trainee as defined – WAC 246‑811
Academic training in the social service field and substance use disorder treatment, in accordance with Department of Health licensing requirements.
Work experience in the social service field and substance use disorder treatment, in accordance with licensing requirements (SUDP/T).
Experience with substance abuse treatment planning and counseling.
Knowledge and Skills
Understanding of racial justice and social equity and commitment to creating an equitable environment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, patients, and staff from various ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.
Ability to work well under stressful situations, be creative, and implement effective approaches to chemical dependency treatment.
Counselors with a history of personal substance abuse must have been abstinent for a minimum of three years prior to employment.
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload, work independently, and complete tasks timely and efficiently.
Dependable, able to work under pressure, receptive to change, willing to learn, cooperative problem‑solving approach.
Flexible team player with excellent attention to detail.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion with sensitive information.
Ability to set boundaries, resolve conflict, and de‑escalate issues.
Computer literate, basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and initiative to keep current with technological change.
Physical Conditions and Requirements
May be exposed to illicit drug residues, fumes, or bio‑hazardous materials, including bloodborne pathogens. ETS will provide training to limit risk.
Regular requirement to sit, use hands to handle objects, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear; frequently required to stand, walk, kneel; occasionally to climb, balance, stoop; rarely to crouch or crawl.
Occasional lifting/moving up to 30 pounds. Vision requirements: close, color, and peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus. Noise level: moderate.

Possible use of a program vehicle requiring a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
