Overview Seeking a skilled Controls Engineer with strong PLC and HMI programming experience in a manufacturing environment. This role supports operations and engineering teams to enhance automated systems, improve process efficiency, and ensure product quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Lead startup and commissioning activities for new automated facilities or systems.
Design, program, and implement automation solutions (PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks).
Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and maintain uptime.
Maintain and update documentation for system designs, changes, and processes.
Support production teams by diagnosing and resolving technical issues.
Assist with integration of MES and BMS systems.
Develop and update SOPs and user documentation for automation systems.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize efficiency and reduce manual processes.
Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards (GMP, OSHA, etc.).
Provide technical reports and communicate effectively with leadership and team members.
Manage multiple projects independently and work flexible hours, including occasional nights and weekends.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering (or related field).
Minimum 5 years of experience as a Controls Engineer or Programmer in manufacturing (food or beverage experience preferred).
Strong PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and HMI design (AVEVA, FactoryTalk View) experience.
Knowledge of industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet), P&IDs, PID loop tuning, and VFD setup.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Ability to work in varied temperature conditions and around typical food manufacturing materials and chemicals.
Must wear required PPE and safely navigate all facility areas.
Able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform tasks involving standing, bending, climbing, and reaching for extended periods.
