Praetorian Power Protection, the leader in NETA testing and staff augmentation to the mission‑critical industry, is searching for a Controls Commissioning Engineer to join our Reno‑based team.
Base Pay Range : $60.00/hr – $65.00/hr. This range is provided by Praetorian Power Protection LLC; your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.
As a Controls Commissioning Engineer, you will coordinate the entire commissioning process across multiple trades, from initial design reviews and pre‑functional testing to complex integrated systems validation. You will serve as the technical authority for troubleshooting automation, HVAC, electrical, and security controls, utilizing tools like PLCs and SCADA to guarantee 24/7 uptime for life‑safety and business‑critical facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate all phases of the controls commissioning process, including design reviews, submittal analysis, functional performance testing, and integrated systems testing. Act as the primary point of contact for integrating complex building control systems delivered by subcontractors, ensuring cohesive operation. Diagnose and resolve complex issues in automation, HVAC (BMS/BAS), electrical (EPMS), and security control systems, performing hands‑on analysis of PLC logic and SCADA interfaces. Manage and direct multiple controls vendors and trades on‑site, ensuring adherence to project specifications, schedules, and quality standards. Develop and execute commissioning test scripts to identify and mitigate risks to critical operations. Enforce contract compliance and adherence to industry standards (ASHRAE, LEED, Uptime Institute). Work closely with project managers, construction teams, and owner representatives to align commissioning activities with project schedules, budgets, and the Owner's Project Requirements (OPR). Prepare comprehensive commissioning plans, reports, discrepancy logs, and final turnover documentation for the client. Required Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience). 5+ years of experience in controls, automation, or commissioning, with significant experience in mission‑critical environments (data centers, hospitals, industrial plants). Strong technical understanding of control sequences for mechanical and electrical systems. Hands‑on experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS), PLCs, and SCADA platforms. Proficient at reading and interpreting design drawings, control schematics, and technical submittals. Preferred Qualifications
Direct data center commissioning experience. Experience with specific control platforms such as Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider Electric, or ALC. Knowledge of critical power systems (UPS, generators, switchgear) and mechanical systems (chillers, CRAHs). Professional certification (PE, BCA, or similar). Seniority Level
