Suffolk Construction is seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Executive Vice President of Procurement to establish, lead, and grow a new vertical for procuring materials. In this pivotal role, the EVP of Procurement will be responsible for building a best‑in‑class construction material procurement function from the ground up, defining and executing a comprehensive business strategy, developing core capabilities, building a team, and establishing robust systems and processes. The individual will oversee sourcing, vendor relations, contract management, and supply‑chain efficiency across all project lifecycles, building a resilient, high‑value procurement program that seamlessly integrates with other business verticals and aligns with Suffolk’s long‑term vision for growth. The role requires a visionary leader with an entrepreneurial spirit who can build a high‑performing team and identify and secure strategic partnerships to drive growth. Responsibilities
Build and Lead the Procurement Division: collaborate with Suffolk executives to architect and deploy a comprehensive materials procurement strategy that defines material scope, ensures alignment with Suffolk’s long‑term vision, and establishes foundational policies, processes, and systems for scalability; recruit, train, and mentor a specialized high‑performing procurement team fostering a collaborative, high‑accountability culture focused on operational excellence and continuous improvement. Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Management: identify, evaluate, and build partnerships with strategic suppliers, executing sophisticated contract negotiations to secure favorable terms, quality materials, and reliable delivery; oversee scoping, budgeting, and the integration of workflow‑management tools to optimize procurement efficiency and alignment. Cost Optimization and Budget Management: hold full P&L accountability and strategically manage the procurement budget to drive cost savings while minimizing risk exposure; continuously identify opportunities for cost reduction through strategic sourcing and negotiation. Risk Management: identify and mitigate supply‑chain risks by diversifying the supplier base, upholding rigorous quality standards and SOPs for material usage on jobsites. Cross‑Functional Collaboration: work closely with Suffolk’s in‑house design function (Suffolk Design) to support a strategy related to material specification on design‑assist and design‑build projects; lead material bids and pricing strategies, preparing execution strategies/plans in conjunction with critical internal partners; play an integral role in the evolution of Suffolk’s Seamless Platform, centered on data collection, integration, and end‑to‑end building lifecycle excellence. Data‑Driven Decision Making: develop and implement metrics, KPIs, and SOPs for the Supply Chain Vertical, leveraging data analytics to drive informed purchasing decisions and streamline processes for optimal efficiency. Qualifications
15+ years in procurement, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably in the construction industry or a similar field. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is required; Master’s degree is a plus. Proven experience establishing or scaling a procurement function, especially in a startup or high‑growth environment. Knowledge of estimating, construction costs, scheduling, purchasing and engineering principles and techniques, general contract and subcontract documents, drawings and specifications, and familiar with accounting and cost‑control procedures. Strong negotiation, contract management, and vendor‑relationship skills. Deep knowledge of supply‑chain and procurement best practices specific to construction materials and services. Excellent problem‑solving abilities and an analytical mindset. High proficiency in procurement and ERP software. Entrepreneurial spirit, self‑starter, and adaptable to evolving business needs. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to influence and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. High level of integrity and commitment to ethical practices. Working Conditions
The employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time, talk or hear, perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing; frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with arms and/or hands; specific vision abilities include close, distance, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
