Full-time Police Officers with arrest powers, certified in any state within the United States, with no break in service for two (2) years at the time of application, may apply for a lateral appointment without taking the civil service examination outlined in Rule 13. Such candidates recently laid off or placed in a part-time or reserve position after having worked in a full-time position for two (2) consecutive years, may still apply for a lateral appointment, providing the candidate holds an active police officer certification. Lateral candidates must meet the criteria outlined in Section 13.01 and 13.09. Lateral candidates must be approved by the Director of Public Safety. The position of Police Officer is under the supervision of the Fields Services Bureau Lieutenant and a Sergeant. Responsibilities include providing a visible, professional police presence, conducting patrols, responding to calls, enforcing laws, maintaining safety, and assisting citizens. Tasks include initiating reports, making arrests, conducting investigations, sharing intelligence, and community engagement. Conduct routine patrols within assigned areas. Maintain public safety, respond to emergencies, enforce laws, and foster community relations. Identify and monitor areas of criminal activity or nuisances. Use knowledge of city streets and locations. Assess complaints and emergency requests to determine responses. Engage with community members. Mediate disputes. Pursue and arrest suspects, using force when necessary. Utilize automated systems and mobile devices for checks. Operate vehicles safely under various conditions. Communicate effectively via police radio. Record facts and prepare reports and documentation. Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required. Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 21 years of age at appointment, not exceeding 40 years. U.S. citizenship. Reside within a distance enabling reporting within 60 minutes of contact. Corrected visual acuity of 20/30 in both eyes. Licenses and Certificates:

Valid Ohio Driver's License with acceptable driving record. Ohio Police Officer Training Academy certificate or ability to attend one. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of government, law, and city layout. Proficiency in word processing and communication. Problem-solving, judgment, and physical ability to operate in various conditions. Working Conditions:

Exposure to hazards, noise, weather, and potential infectious diseases. Support and coordinate with other law enforcement agencies. Conduct investigations, testify in court, and perform related duties.
