Head Lifeguard
Concord Recreation is seeking responsible Head Lifeguards for weekday and weekend shifts at our indoor and outdoor pool locations, as well as White Pond (seasonal). Head Lifeguards manage lifeguard operations, supervise lifeguards on duty, watch pool/waterfront activities, prevent and address dangerous situations, and respond to people in need of aid. Candidates must be team players, flexible, dependable, and motivated. Must possess a current ARC LGT and CPR/AED certification or be willing to obtain. Pay range: $21.00 - $30.00 per hour; starting pay based on qualifications. This is an hourly, part‑time position, consisting of up to 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities
Oversee the activities of lifeguards, instructors, coaches, and other program providers at pool and/or pond sites to ensure safety protocols are being followed.
Maintain watchfulness over pools and ponds to prevent dangerous situations; monitor and assist swimmers and enforce regulations; provide basic first aid; perform rescue when appropriate and call for help.
Assist in the daily opening of the pool/waterfront, test pools for proper chlorine and pH levels, and set up lanes; assist in the daily closing of the pool/waterfront; check facilities for vacancy at the end of the day and pick up any possessions left behind.
Perform weekly tests of all emergency call boxes with the Concord Police Department to ensure proper connection and audibility.
Perform special projects and related responsibilities as initiated and requested.
Regular attendance at the workplace is required.
Oversee seasonal responsibilities at White Pond (seasonal) and Emerson Pool (seasonal) as appropriate, ensuring safety, coverage, and communication with staff and families.
Supervisory Responsibility
Directly supervise the activities and performance of lifeguards and provide functional oversight to other aquatics staff.
Qualifications
High School education and one to three years of lifeguarding and/or pool supervision experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid ARC Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and AED certification; CPO certification must be obtained within one year of hire.
Valid motor vehicle operator’s license with a safe driving record and ability to provide personal vehicle for occasional transportation during work hours.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Working knowledge of multi‑pool aquatic facility, procedures and equipment.
Excellent customer service skills; ability to communicate effectively with all members of the public, including children and young adults, in a courteous and tactful manner.
Ability to swim and perform lifesaving techniques, CPR and First Aid.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands Moderate physical effort is generally required, which involves frequent lifting of 30-60 pounds. Additional physical effort is required in emergency situations to perform rescue/lifesaving activities. Regularly required to walk, swim, stand, crouch, reach, crawl, climb, talk, sit, watch, and hear for extended periods of time. Vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges.
Work is performed in varied environments including those of a large multi‑pool aquatic facility, an outdoor camp pool, and a pond waterfront; includes exposure to various weather conditions and pool chemicals. Noise is moderate to loud at times.
