Job Title: Small Animal General Practitioner (Faculty Position – Practice Track)

Position Overview The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking passionate teaching veterinarians with exceptional medical, surgical, dental and business skills for an open Practice Track faculty position in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. The candidate will practice and teach veterinary students in the College’s Frank Stanton Veterinary Spectrum of Care (SOC) Clinic in a full‑time practice track faculty position. They will coach final‑year students as they take the lead in providing veterinary care to patients and engage with clients from a wide variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. In the clinic, students learn multiple approaches to patient management, diagnostic techniques, treatments, and clinical procedures, and are also taught communication skills, practice management, and business.
Responsibilities
Clinical teaching of professional students in the Spectrum of Care Rotation, in conjunction with diagnosis and treatment of patients presented to the SOC Clinic.
All aspects of patient care associated with a busy small animal general practice including patient management, client care, consultation with colleagues, medical record keeping, professional development, and participation in public relations activities.
Model and promote a culture of collegiality, professional citizenship, and collaboration in all academic endeavors to create an excellent workplace atmosphere conducive to effective learning and a high level of job satisfaction.
Adhere to external, university, college, VMC, and department policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Coaching students from all years to help them fully develop their confidence and competence before entering practice.
Qualifications
DVM or equivalent.
A minimum of five years of clinical experience in a high‑quality small animal primary care practice.
Possess a genuine dedication to the educational success of our students.
Understand the skills necessary to successfully and confidently enter veterinary general practice.
Have a proven successful track record as a general practitioner, practicing Spectrum of Care medicine.
Demonstrate a belief in the importance of spectrum of care while providing care options that are responsive to client beliefs, values, financial limitations, and expectations.
Have broad expertise and experience in wellness, preventive medicine, diagnosis, and management of diseases of dogs and cats, including dentistry, general surgery, and hospital‑based care.
Have experience in managing a high‑paced clinical case load with the ability to multi‑task.
Be an outstanding communicator.
Have demonstrated a commitment to teaching, mentoring, or coaching.
