The Dayton, Ohio Veterans Affairs Medical Center is recruiting for a well-qualified Physiatrist under direct administrative supervision of the PM&R Service Chief, expected to provide clinical services to patients in all PM&R clinics. They specialize in medical rehabilitation and treatment to promote the health, independence, and quality of life for veterans.
Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
Degree: Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs who otherwise meet the basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent or fee‑basis
PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may not be privileged independent practitioners; they will have a scope of practice allowing certain restricted duties under supervision
Proficiency in spoken and written English
Preferred Experience: Board certified Physiatrist with experience in Pain Management and Traumatic Brain Injury
Physical Requirements: Occasional lifting, prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing, reaching, repetitive motion, and stooping
Mental/Sensory Requirements: Recall, reasoning, problem‑solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, and logical thinking
Environmental Pace: Varies from steady to a somewhat fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent and intense customer interactions, and ability to adapt to changes in a sometimes noisy environment
Occasional need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness, or hazardous materials
Responsibilities
Diagnose, treat, and direct rehabilitation plans for individuals with painful and function‑limiting musculoskeletal disorders of the spine, peripheral joints, and soft tissues (e.g., sprains, strains, disc herniations, rheumatologic conditions, degenerative, developmental, acquired, and traumatic neuromuscular conditions of the upper and lower limbs)
Diagnose, treat, and direct rehabilitation plans for individuals with spinal cord and brain injuries
Perform office‑based injections such as joint injections, ultrasound‑guided injections, or EMG‑guided injections (preferred experience)
Provide support to PM&R clinics, including PM&R physician consults, amputee clinic, complex gait clinic, SCI, pain, and TBI/Polytrauma programs
Collaborate with coordinators of the Polytrauma/TBI, amputee, and SCI programs, providing coverage for these clinics as needed
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 0800 to 1630
