Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced
Senior Sybase Database Administrator Engineer
to manage, optimize, and support mission‑critical Sybase environments hosted both on‑premises and in
AWS Cloud . The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in
Sybase ASE ,
Linux environments ,
automation scripting , and
database migration
activities. This role requires a strong hands‑on engineer capable of troubleshooting complex issues, improving database performance, and ensuring high availability and security in enterprise environments. This is a
hybrid position , based in
Virginia (VA)
or
Texas (TX) , with periodic on‑site collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Administer, maintain, and optimize
Sybase ASE (Adaptive Server Enterprise)
databases across on‑premises and AWS environments.
Perform
database upgrades, migrations, and replication setup
across various Sybase versions and Linux platforms.
Implement and manage
high availability (HA)
and
disaster recovery (DR)
configurations.
Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and perform proactive
performance tuning and debugging .
Develop and maintain
automation scripts
using
Unix Shell scripting
and
Python
for database backups, monitoring, and configuration management.
Implement
role‑based access control (RBAC) ,
encryption , and other security measures.
Manage and troubleshoot
AutoSys job scheduling , replication, and connectivity issues.
Provide
production support
and ensure minimal downtime for critical systems.
Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and security teams to ensure database reliability and compliance.
Deliver consulting and advisory services to internal stakeholders on database design and best practices.
Required Qualifications
10+ years of strong, hands‑on experience in
Sybase Database Administration (ASE and Transact‑SQL) .
10+ years of experience supporting
Sybase on Linux environments , both on‑premises and in
AWS Cloud .
Proven expertise in
database upgrades, migrations , and
version management
in cloud environments.
Proficiency with
AutoSys scheduler ,
replication setup , and
HA/DR
configurations.
Hands‑on experience with
Unix Shell scripting
and
Python automation
for database functions.
Experience automating
backup, monitoring, and configuration
processes in AWS.
Strong analytical and
problem‑solving
abilities for complex database issues.
Excellent
communication ,
time management , and
technical presentation
skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver projects effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
Preferred Skills
Experience with
AWS RDS for Sybase
or similar managed database services.
Familiarity with
CI/CD integration
for database deployments.
Exposure to
cloud security best practices
for data encryption and compliance.
Soft Skills
