Director of Sterile Processing
for a top
healthcare
client in
Asheville, NC . Reporting directly to the VP of Perioperative Services, this role provides strategic and operational leadership for a large Sterile Processing Department supporting multiple service lines, including Endoscopy, OR, CVOR, and L&D. The Director will oversee an 80‑member team, ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance across all sterilization and reprocessing functions while driving efficiency and performance improvement initiatives across the system. Job Responsibilities
Lead and manage all operations of the Sterile Processing Department, ensuring quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. Oversee and develop team leads and staff, maintaining appropriate staffing levels, competencies, and continuing education. Collaborate with perioperative and clinical leadership to align SPD operations with hospital goals and patient care priorities. Implement and maintain quality control programs to ensure adherence to aseptic and infection control standards. Manage departmental budgets, resource allocation, and equipment procurement in coordination with the VP of Perioperative Services. Utilize SPM Workflow software to monitor and optimize instrument tracking and sterilization processes. Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Support integration of SPD services across inpatient and outpatient clinics to maximize operational efficiency. Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Nursing, or completion of a two‑year Surgical Technology program required Experience
Minimum of 5 years in Sterile Processing with at least 5 years of progressive leadership experience in Central Sterile Processing Acute care hospital experience required Proven ability to lead large teams in high‑volume environments Certifications/Licenses
Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT)
or
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) required IAHCSMM Certification required Skills or Competencies
Expertise in sterilization practices, aseptic technique, and infection control Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills Proficiency in SPM Workflow and related healthcare IT systems Ability to manage multiple service lines and high‑volume operations Benefits
