Job Title: Phlebotomist
Job Description
The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The position involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and explaining the process of venipuncture or other specimen collection clearly and courteously.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, decontaminate, and update patient information.
Collect and store specimens as per established procedures.
Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections clearly and courteously.
Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Understand and follow all physicians' orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
Ensure test requisitions or computer labels match scripts 100% accurately.
Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperature.
Place samples in appropriate collection containers or tubes and label them accurately.
Follow procedures necessary for specimen transport to maintain integrity.
Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department trainings.
Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in phlebotomy, blood draw, and venipuncture.
Experience with laboratory procedures and specimen collection.
Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.
2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.

This is a Contract position based out of Columbia, SC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.50/hr.
