Position Overview
This position performs law enforcement work at a University campus or other State facility. With full powers of arrest, positions enforce the laws of the State and the United States Government. Positions have law enforcement authority ranging from traffic control to criminal investigations within a limited geographic jurisdiction. Work involves patrolling an assigned area for response to complaints or calls and for detection of violations in the enforcement of State laws and applicable regulations. Duties include apprehending observed violators committing offenses, investigating violations or complaints in order to assess and handle cases, collection and preservation of evidence and the chain of custody, testifying in court proceedings and performing related work.
Job Responsibilities

Minimum Requirements Police Officer I to III: $53,956 - $60,844. Master Police Officer I to III: $62,682 - $70,502. Minimum requirements for a Police Officer I: A high school diploma or GED. At least probationary certification as a commissioned LEO in the State of North Carolina. If the agency elects a commissioned LEO certified other than by the State of North Carolina, final employment is contingent on attaining North Carolina LEO certification within a specified period. Successful completion of the agency’s field training program for newly appointed campus police officers is required.
Applicants with two years of documented experience as a sworn campus, local, state, or federal law enforcement officer may be eligible for appointment at a higher entry rank. For example: Police Officer II – 2 years prior experience; Police Officer III – 4 years; Master Police Officer I – 6 years (a graduate or Juris Doctor degree reduces the requirement by 1 year). Master Police Officer II – 3 years of experience as a Master Police Officer or equivalent; Master Police Officer III – 6 years of experience as a Master Police Officer or equivalent.
Required License or Certification Commissioned law enforcement officer certification in the State of North Carolina; attainment of North Carolina LEO certification if not already held.
