Job Summary
The Coder is responsible for reviewing discharge abstracts and patient charts to assign the appropriate ICD-CM/CPT codes to diagnoses and procedures. The role involves reviewing charts for potential liability risk, documenting specific information as required, performing studies requested by physicians or administration, and maintaining state reporting documentation in compliance with regulations. The Coder works to provide quality healthcare by ensuring accurate and efficient coding, applying correct codes for ICD-10, CPT/HCPCS, evaluation and management, and/or modifiers to encounters for claims processing, or assessing, charging, and reconciling encounters. The position follows all federal, state, and payer‑specific regulations and policies regarding documentation and coding requirements.

Job Knowledge & Qualifications
1–2 years of coding experience (Certified Coder).
2+ years for Coder III level, with demonstrated proficiency in ICD‑10‑CM coding, including multiple service lines and E/M and CPT procedural coding for two or more areas.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of AHIMA / AAPC training course or comparable medical billing and coding certificate program required.
Certified Coder required.
Coder II Required Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of AHIMA / AAPC training course or comparable medical billing and coding certificate program required.
Certified Coder with 0-2 years of coding experience.
Coder III Required Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of AHIMA / AAPC training course or comparable medical billing and coding certificate program required.
Certified Coder with 2 or more years of ICD‑10‑CM coding experience with WhidbeyHealth.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations RHIA, RHIT, CCA, CCS, CCS‑P, CPC, COC, CIC, CRC or other valid AHIMA and/or AAPC coding certification.

Coder II: $28,588 – $44,480
Coder III: $31,765 – $46,081
