Title: Cafeteria Monitor - Lunch

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22,000 students. Job Goal The Cafeteria Monitor supervises students during breakfast and lunch periods, enforcing responsible behavior in the lunchroom. The position works closely with campus staff and district administration to support a safe and positive eating environment.
Essential Functions
Supervise breakfast and lunch periods to ensure appropriate and responsible behavior.
Ensure all activities conform to district guidelines.
Communicate and work effectively with district and community members.
Respond to interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting assigned deadlines.
Implement the vision and mission of the district.
Encourage responsible behavior.
Observe and follow all district policies at all times.
Respond to information requests cooperatively, courteously, and timely.
Implement and follow all district health and safety policies, including the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
Perform other tasks and assume responsibilities as assigned by the building principal.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Communication / Organization Maintains communication with school personnel and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action that meets the needs of students.
Performs Other Related Work As Required Other duties as assigned.
Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Language Skills Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.
Physical Demands The physical demands described herein represent those required to perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must regularly sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear. Occasional lifting or moving up to 50 pounds, including pushing a 50‑pound item such as a bike or wheelchair, or rearranging furniture, is required.
Work Environment Typical work environment is loud and within the standard acceptable level for this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Other Skills and Abilities Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and the community; ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.
