Associate or Senior Editor, Nature Communications (Computational Social Science)
Base pay: $80,000 – $95,000 per year.
Location: New York, Madrid, or Shanghai (hybrid working).
Closing date: November 14th, 2025.
Responsibilities
Handle original research papers and collaborate closely with other editors on all stages of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.
Make well‑reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in the light of expert advice.
Determine the representation of the subject in the journal.
Liaise extensively with editors at other Nature family journals and with experts in the international scientific community.
Attend conferences and visit research institutions.
Commission and edit reviews, and write editorials.
Qualifications
A PhD (or equivalent) in a field related to computational social science.
Significant research experience preferred.
A thorough understanding of recent trends and developments in the field.
A passion for science and a thirst to learn more; demonstrate breadth of interest in scientific research within and beyond your specialty.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; fluent in English (written and spoken).
Ability to read and assess the novelty, context and implications of research submitted from various disciplines.
Be eager to travel and meet scientists worldwide, learn more about their research, and help them understand what we seek to publish.
Editorial experience is not required, but applicants with significant editorial experience are encouraged to apply for Senior Editor positions.
The successful candidate will report to a Chief Editor in the health and clinical sciences division at Nature Communications. This demanding and intellectually stimulating role is located in one of our offices.
