Job Description: Lead the technical execution of migrating virtual infrastructure from Nutanix VMware to VMware vSAN within a VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) framework, ensuring optimal performance, security, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities: "1. Migration Strategy & Planning Assess the current Nutanix VMware environment, including workloads, dependencies, and configurations. Design the target VMware vSAN architecture within the VCF framework. Develop a comprehensive migration plan with timelines, risk mitigation, and rollback strategies. 2. VMware vSAN & VCF Implementation Configure and deploy vSAN clusters, storage policies, fault domains, and stretched clusters if applicable. Integrate vSAN into the VCF stack, including SDDC Manager, vCenter, NSX, and vRealize components. Ensure compliance with VMware best practices for vSAN and VCF deployments. 3. Networking & Security Design and configure network topology to support vSAN traffic, including VLANs, MTU settings, and NIC teaming. Collaborate with network teams to ensure proper routing, firewall rules, and connectivity between legacy and target environments. Implement NSX-T for network virtualization and security policies within VCF. 4. Migration Execution Lead the migration of VMs and workloads using tools such as VMware HCX, vMotion, or replication-based methods. Troubleshoot complex issues during migration and post-migration stabilization. Validate performance, data integrity, and application functionality post-migration. 5. Automation & Optimization Develop scripts and automation workflows using PowerCLI, Python, or Ansible to streamline migration and configuration tasks. Monitor and tune vSAN performance using vSAN Health Check, vRealize Operations, and other tools. 6. Documentation & Reporting Maintain detailed documentation of architecture, configurations, migration steps, and operational procedures. Provide regular updates to stakeholders and escalate critical issues promptly. Create post-migration reports including performance benchmarks, compliance status, and lessons learned. 7. Collaboration & Knowledge Transfer Work closely with infrastructure, application, and security teams throughout the migration lifecycle. Conduct training and knowledge transfer sessions for Level 1/2 support teams. Contribute to operational runbooks and SOPs for the new vSAN/VCF environment. "
What are the Mandatory skills and skill proficiencies required for this position? "Expert-level knowledge of VMware vSAN, vSphere, ESXi, and VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF). Strong understanding of Nutanix architecture and VMware integration. Hands-on experience with NSX-T, vRealize Suite, and SDDC Manager. Proficiency in networking concepts including VLANs, routing, MTU, and network security. Skilled in scripting and automation (PowerCLI, Python, Ansible). Proven track record in large-scale infrastructure migrations and troubleshooting. "
