Job Description AECOM is hiring an entry level
Environmental Scientist/Geologist
in Raleigh, North Carolina to assist with data management, site investigations, and remediation. The role involves gathering and analyzing geological, hydrogeological, and geochemical data in field and office settings, overseeing subcontractors, and preparing investigation reports. Flexibility, a positive attitude, and commitment to health and safety are essential.
Responsibilities
Conduct environmental field work, collecting soil, surface water, groundwater, and remediation system data; perform soil logging and fluid level gauging.
Oversee contractors conducting field surveys, drilling, well installation, development operations, and utility clearance for intrusive operations, and underground storage tank removal.
Participate in a health and safety team performing inspections, observations, and training.
Prepare field documents, collect field data, process data, and interpret results.
Support office tasks, including data entry, data analysis, report preparation, and maintenance of a records archive system.
Collect and record data, comparing results to relevant studies and state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
Travel to project locations, including driving and overnight stays.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Geology.
Valid U.S. Driver’s License.
Pass a Motor Vehicle Records review as a condition of employment.
U.S. citizenship required.
Ability to move across uneven terrains and work in adverse seasonal weather conditions.
Travel up to 60–80% for fieldwork; travel out-of-state for fieldwork; overnight travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
Understand and supervise soil borings and monitoring well installation.
Demonstrate technical leadership in multiple site characterization, subsurface investigation, and remediation projects.
Assist with site conceptual models.
Collect and evaluate environmental data in field and office settings.
Prepare investigation reports and drawings.
Possess technical report writing skills.
Lead independent field work and field teams.
Oversee contractors.
Complete 40-hour HAZWOPER training or annual refresher if needed.
Receive First Aid/CPR training and AECOM specific training.
Develop a keen understanding of hazard recognition and environmental investigation or remediation.
Proficient with MS Word and MS Excel.

Candidates will submit to medical surveillance screening upon hire.
This position requires a hybrid work schedule, including office work in Raleigh, North Carolina; candidates must be available to work in this location on a scheduled basis.
Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $55,000 to $65,000 per year.
