The IT Support Specialist is a critical role responsible for delivering technical support and administrative assistance for computer systems, hardware, software, and related equipment. This position ensures the smooth operation of IT infrastructure, supports end users, and collaborates with the Public Safety Specialist to enhance Public Safety department operations. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to supporting organizational goals in a fast-paced environment.

Technical Support : Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, printing, and network connectivity issues (LAN, WAN, VPN) in a Windows environment, providing Level 1 support to end users. Helpdesk Operations : Answer and manage incoming calls to the IT and Public Safety helpdesk lines, addressing inquiries promptly and escalating complex issues to senior team members as needed. Public Safety Support : Collaborate with the Public Safety Specialist to provide administrative and technical support to Public Safety departments, including equipment setup, troubleshooting, and coordination of IT-related needs. Hardware & Software Management : Install, configure, customize, and upgrade devices (PCs, laptops, mobile devices, printers, servers) and connect them to networks, ensuring optimal performance. User Account Management : Create, modify, disable, and delete user accounts in accordance with organizational standards and policies. Asset & License Management : Track IT assets and software licenses, ensuring compliance and accurate documentation. Network Troubleshooting : Perform basic networking diagnostics and support to maintain connectivity and system reliability. Software Updates : Assist with software releases, patches, and updates to ensure systems remain secure and up-to-date. Documentation & Escalation : Document technical issues, resolutions, and trends; escalate Level 2/3 issues to appropriate senior staff with clear summaries. Vendor Coordination : Communicate with vendors to resolve hardware/software compatibility issues, obtain quotes, and arrange repairs. Process Improvement : Identify opportunities to streamline IT support processes and enhance service delivery for both IT and Public Safety functions. Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Education : High school diploma or GED required. Experience : 2+ years of experience supporting IBM-compatible PCs, peripherals, or similar IT systems. Certifications/Licenses : Valid Florida driver's license and reliable transportation for travel to remote sites. Preferred Qualifications Education : Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Certifications : CompTIA A+, Network+, or similar certifications Skills and Competencies
Technical Proficiency :
Basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory. Intermediate to advanced expertise in Windows 7, 10, and 11. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (2016, 2019, Microsoft 365), including Outlook, Teams, Visio, and Project. Familiarity with modern deployment tools (e.g., zero-touch imaging, SCCM, or similar). Basic understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
Problem-Solving : Ability to methodically assess and resolve technical issues with sound judgment. Communication : Excellent verbal and written communication skills to summarize technical issues, document service desk requests, and interact with diverse stakeholders. Customer Service : Strong interpersonal skills to provide exceptional support to end users and Public Safety personnel. Organization : Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. Adaptability : Comfort working independently or with minimal supervision, adapting to fluctuating priorities. Equipment Familiarity : Experience with modems, displays, keyboards, mice, printers, and cabling.
This is a non-exempt position paid on an hourly basis which is eligible for overtime.
