Sanofi's contingent workforce program, FLEXT Direct, is seeking a Scientist I for an 11-month contract that may be extended.
Description
As an experienced scientist, you will work independently and efficiently on Synthetic Biology including gene and oligo design, oligo synthesis, gene assembly, next-generation sequencing and data analysis, nucleic acid purification and characterization. You will take the lead in high-throughput gene synthesis and plasmid production, process automation, protocol development, quality and throughput improvements, and problem solving.

In this role, you will:
Independently plan, design, and execute synthetic biology experiments to construct and prepare high-quality nucleic acid material for mRNA vaccine production. Participate in mRNA vaccine target development, DNA template production, QC, and data analysis. Develop, evaluate, and implement new synthetic biology technologies and optimize existing techniques and workflows to meet goals. Collaborate with automation engineers to automate the gene synthesis workflow, meeting high-throughput requirements. Utilize software tools to automate DNA designs and NGS data analysis. Work in highly collaborative cross-functional teams. Prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for management and stakeholders. Mentor junior team members as needed. This position will be primarily lab-based.
Competencies / Requirements for the position
About You
Ph.D. with 2+ years of post-graduate experience in synthetic biology, with extensive experience in oligo synthesis, sequence design, gene assembly, NGS library prep, analysis, and process optimization. Desire to work in a team-first, fast-paced environment, learn new skills, and solve problems efficiently. Attention to detail and meticulous record keeping. Hands-on molecular biology skills in oligo synthesizer, PCR, Gibson and Golden Gate Assembly, Illumina and nanopore NGS platforms, automated liquid handler Hamilton, etc. Expertise in nucleic acid sequence analysis software (Geneious, Snapgene, Benchling, etc.) and some programming experience such as Python, SQL, R. Expertise in analytical and molecular biology methods relevant to DNA work. Experience in setting up research agreements and managing external research and tech transfer activities in contract research labs.
