About the role: Skydio is the leading US drone company and the world leader in autonomous flight, the key technology for the future of drones and aerial transportation. The Skydio team combines deep expertise in artificial intelligence, best-in-class hardware and software product development, and operational excellence to empower a broader, more diverse audience of drone users — from first responders to insurance claims adjusters, utilities, and more!
Autonomous systems integrate electronics hardware, sensing, and real-time AI software. The complexity of these systems, combined with their ability to move freely in the real world, makes developing robust testing strategies essential for delivering high-quality products.
We are seeking a driven and versatile Hardware Test and Reliability Engineer to help drive safety and reliability initiatives, develop and execute test plans that enable rapid design iteration, and ensure robust product validation for autonomous flying machines serving enterprise, public safety, and defense sectors.
How you will make an impact:
Analyze large datasets from flight telemetry and customer analytics to identify potential problems, perform risk assessments, develop prognostic and maintenance protocols, and base reliability test specifications on data.
Collaborate with product development, embedded software, quality, manufacturing, and suppliers to define and execute comprehensive test strategies from prototyping to volume production, enabling early failure mode detection.
Work with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to perform failure analysis, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and develop process and design mitigations.
Contribute to design reviews and provide reliability input to mitigate risks from prototypes to customer shipment.
Engage across multiple domains to make Skydio products the preferred choice in challenging environments.
Useful skills and experience:
Over 6 years of hands-on experience in developing, testing, and delivering highly reliable complex systems.
Deep understanding of failure physics and risks associated with electronics subsystems like batteries, cameras, compute systems, or sensors.
Proficiency in Python and SQL for managing and analyzing large datasets to uncover operational insights.
Strong systems engineering approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving across mechanical, electrical, and software domains.
Enthusiasm for hands-on testing, characterization, and failure analysis.
Ability to communicate hardware reliability nuances effectively to diverse teams and stakeholders.
Compensation: At Skydio, our full-time employees enjoy competitive salaries, stock options, and comprehensive benefits. The annual base salary range for this position is $145,000-$195,000, with variations based on experience and location. Benefits include health insurance, paid time off, sick leave, holidays, and a 401K plan. Relocation assistance may be available for eligible roles. All benefits are subject to applicable laws and company policies.
*Compensation may vary based on the role’s location.
