SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in the state of Washington. LWTech offers , , and in , including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

LWTech serves the Eastside and is located within the city of Kirkland, which is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Washington. Job Summary: Lake Washington Institute of Technology is seeking qualified part time instructors. All instructor positions require two years work experience; college teaching experience and industry certifications are preferred.

High School Programs is recruiting for an adjunct instructor in the Language Intensive Program (LIP) for Fall Quarter 2024 as well as to establish an applicant pool for future part-time faculty vacancies. The college hires part-time faculty on a quarter by quarter basis, dependent on enrollment. The LIP program is a part of Open Doors in an independent high school on the LWTech campus. The students in this program are 16 - 21 years old, and they are not on track to graduate from traditional high school. This program allows opportunities to improve English language and studentship skills while exploring options for future study. Students who reach appropriate English proficiency then complete their diplomas and earn up to an associate degree, depending on eligibility.

Plan and develop a variety of instruction objectives and experiences appropriate to the program goals

Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments

Develop and teach to the objectives of the approved curriculum

Develop and teach lessons which foster and support cultural diversity and non-discrimination

Teach productive and constructive study skills to students Orient students to college systems and resources like Canvas, email, library, Career Services, etc.

Develop classroom and lab procedures in conformance with identified policies and procedures

Collaborate with department chair and other instructors; attend department meetings

Maintain appropriate records which indicate student progress and meet college requirements

Follow disciplinary procedures as prescribed and deal consistently and fairly with all students

Design learning experiences for the unique characteristics of individual adult students through classes, individual instruction and self-directed learning

Post the class syllabus and students' grades via the online course system (currently Canvas)

QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in adult education, TESOL, or a foreign language 2 years related work experience; experience serving low income, historically marginalized, and under-represented youth preferred

2 years teaching experience; college or high school teaching experience preferred

Industry certifications preferred

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Must have sensitivity and ability to successfully interact with diverse populations

Previous experience with an online course system (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Sakai, Moodle) preferred

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Compensation Placement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. The salary for part time faculty contracts shall be based upon the number of credits assigned the faculty member, the type of class taught, and the rates contained in the part time faculty salary schedule currently in effect and labeled Appendix B.

Step 1 ranges from $738.38 - $2,335.13 Step 2 ranges from $819.15 - $2,457.46 Step 3 ranges from $835.95 - $2,507.85 Step 4 ranges from $893.51 - $2,680.54 Step 5 ranges from $916.30 - $2,748.90 Step 6 ranges from $957.08 - $2,871.24
