The Communications and Events Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the organization’s communications strategy and coordinating events that align with our mission and vision and inspire large-scale climate mobilization in the Genesee-Finger Lakes Region. This role is crucial for enhancing the education and engagement of community members and organizational partners around the implementation of New York’s climate law and the Genesee-FLX Climate Action Strategy. This role will build relationships with key media outlets, craft compelling narratives and tell stories that promote a positive vision for our region’s future, highlight local case studies, establish a more robust presence on social media, and increase public awareness and involvement in local climate action efforts. Responsibilities and Duties: Develop and execute a comprehensive communications plan aligned with the organization's mission, vision, and values. Manage content creation and updates across various platforms, including the website, social media, newsletters, press releases, and marketing materials. Ensure consistent messaging that resonates with diverse audiences, including stakeholders, partners, donors, and the public. Build relationships with key media outlets and local reporters to increase coverage of local climate stories. Craft narratives that lift up a positive vision for the region’s future and foster a greater sense of belonging and commitment to our cause. Highlight our programmatic work and local case studies that document the exciting progress happening in our region. Monitor and analyze communication metrics to refine strategies and improve engagement. Serve as the primary media contact, building and maintaining relationships with local and regional media outlets. Support the planning, promotion, and execution of organizational events, including the annual Climate Solutions Summit, other community engagement activities, and internal events (i.e. staff and board gatherings). This includes coordinating event logistics, (i.e. venue selection, vendor management, scheduling, and staffing). Develop and manage event budgets and planning checklists, ensuring cost-effective, mission-aligned, and impactful events. Collaborate with team members to integrate events into broader organizational strategies and objectives. Build and maintain relationships with partners, sponsors, vendors, and participants to enhance event success and community impact. Collaborate with the Senior Director of Operations and other team members to align communications and events with organizational goals. Provide regular updates and reports to leadership on the effectiveness of communications strategies and event outcomes. Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be a creative and detail-oriented professional with a background in communications, marketing, public relations, event management, or a related field. This individual will excel in crafting compelling narratives, building strong relationships with media outlets, and managing a diverse range of communications and event planning responsibilities. Proficiency with digital communication and graphic design tools, including social media platforms, content management systems, email marketing systems, and Canva or Adobe Creative Suite is essential. The candidate should demonstrate a strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. Experience in planning and executing successful events, including managing logistics, budgets, and teams, is crucial. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have a commitment to inclusivity, equity, and sustainability, bringing a thoughtful and strategic approach to all communications efforts. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to engage with diverse audiences are important, as are experience with media relations and public speaking. The candidate should have excellent organizational skills, be adaptable, possess strong problem-solving abilities, and take a proactive approach to managing tasks and challenges.
