Responsibilities include staining, preparing smears, and creating cell blocks. Ensures proper specimen handling and identification to maintain integrity. Maintains procedures, records, and quality assurance programs in accordance with CLIA, CAP, and NYS standards. Teaches and assists cytopreparatory staff and researches and develops new processes. This is a full time position, Tuesday - Saturday, 9:30am - 6:00pm. We are also open to a part time position, Tuesday - Saturday, 10:30am - 4:30pm. (We may be open to relocating the ideal candidate.)ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The main duties and responsibilities include the following, but not limited to:Performs the duties as the Cytology Technician in addition to the following: Serves as a role model and promotes the mission and vision of the organization. Reviews slides for technical and stain assessment and troubleshoots errors and initiates corrective actions and documentation. Assists with developing and implementing laboratory procedures and installation of new equipment and methods. Maintains technical knowledge in cytopathology and/or histopathology. Performs and/or oversees various administrative functions as delegated by the Associate Director. Organizes workflow and prioritizes the workload as needed. Monitors laboratory procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies. Ensure proper coverage and scheduling to maintain laboratory TAT expectations and KPI goals. Perform inspections and validations of methodology and instrumentation. Performs Competency Assessments of non-testing personnel. Participates in all non-testing activities to support team members and operations, including Specimen Receiving and Accessioning. Perform daily stain and technical assessments of cytology and histology slides. Familiar with liquid-based preparation technology. Recommends action plans for Process Improvements. Promotes the continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental/infection control standards and practice. Assists with the maintenance of equipment, quality control, inventory management in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. Provides oversight of the laboratory inventory management to ensure appropriate inventory levels are maintained to meet workload. Strives to maintain a positive work environment. Demonstrates interpersonal skills required to successfully perform as a team member in a constantly changing environment. Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to clients and patients. Leads projects, research, and validation activities as assigned. Understands and follows all safety guidelines. Familiar with CAP and CLIA regulations. Handling and disposing of hazardous and non-hazardous materials. Performs all other assigned duties as directed by management. Must be able to flex schedule to accommodate workload, including weekend coverage. Work cross-functionally throughout all areas of the laboratory to ensure continuous workflow. Key knowledge expert in all areas of the laboratory. Perform all duties according to guidelines outlined within the quality systems. Compliant with company policies, procedures, safety requirements and regulations.
