Job Summary Adjunct Faculty are professional educators who work on a limited basis and have the primary responsibility of fulfilling the Texas Southmost College’s (TSC) mission, vision, values and goals of providing a quality education for all students enrolled at the College. The relationship of the adjunct faculty member to the student is one of leader, teacher, advisor, and facilitator of learning. Adjunct Faculty members are responsible to the College President through a chain of command and accountable to the College’s policies and procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Plan an optimal learning environment; provide high quality instruction and advising; participate in developing learning outcomes and assessing students and self to increase effectiveness; engage in ongoing professional development. Manage learning environments by ensuring accurate syllabi are developed that incorporate college, departmental, and instructor requirements; maintain attendance records, submit grades, and provide constructive feedback throughout the semester; conduct classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule. Deliver effective instruction by assuming primary responsibility for curriculum development in conjunction with college policies; design and support a range of appropriate learning activities; use the College's digital learning solution and other available technologies to meet course objectives; clearly communicate expectations concerning technology use. Enhance students’ learning experience by integrating concrete, real‑life situations; develop discipline‑specific thinking, practices, and interdisciplinary applications; involve students and employers in occupational settings as appropriate. Collaborate with colleagues to construct and continuously improve measurable learning outcomes, including THECB core curriculum objectives and TSC objectives. Assess student learning by designing assessments that measure growth; sequence learning opportunities; align assessment with learning objectives. Promote continual improvement by developing and revising curriculum; use defined student learning outcomes for planning and evaluation; participate in TSC’s institutional effectiveness program, including preparing and evaluating Student Learning Outcomes. Support learning through student engagement: create a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, interaction, and support for learners. Maintain a learning‑centered environment by being available during posted office hours and by referring students to appropriate academic support services. Pursue professional development: stay current in academic fields, participate in professional societies, attend conferences, take graduate courses, and contribute to scholarly activities as appropriate. Accept and teach classes on varied schedules (morning, afternoon, evening, weekends) to accommodate diverse student needs; accept assignments at other sites as specified by the supervisor. Demonstrate sensitivity toward and respect for the diversity of students, colleagues, and service areas; attend the workplace regularly and report to work punctually. Complete all required training and professional development sessions sponsored by the College; support the values and institutional goals as defined in the College’s Strategic Plan; perform other duties as assigned.
