Overview The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. (The Lighthouse) seeks a highly motivated and experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its Strategic Leadership team to lead and manage the Finance and Accounting Department. This is the most senior financial position at The Lighthouse.

The ideal candidate will have an MBA and at least 5 years experience as CFO or Vice President, reporting to the CEO, preferably in a nonprofit or manufacturing organization. Preferred candidates will reside within commutable distance to one of the Lighthouse manufacturing facilities in Seattle, WA, Spokane, WA, or Summerville, SC. Remote candidates from other locations who are highly qualified will also be considered for this role.

Key Responsibilities

Provide leadership and management for all financial matters of The Lighthouse, directing all corporate finance, accounting, facilities management, and corporate insurance activities.

Report directly to the President/CEO and assist the Strategic Leadership Team on budget management, cost‑benefit analysis, forecasting, and securing new funding.

Act as a strong business partner to the COO and other SLT members, assessing organizational performance against the annual budget and long‑term strategy, and making actionable recommendations.

Manage financial reporting, budget preparation, internal controls, audits, investing, banking, contract negotiations, business planning, and financial forecasting for the Board and relevant committees.

Oversee accounting systems progression, implementing and maintaining enterprise‑class systems that provide transparent insight into budget and financial data.

Provide financial and strategic planning expertise for growth initiatives, including cost accounting and public/private partnership funding such as grants.

Collaborate with the CEO to develop advance materials for Board and committee meetings.

Accounting

Direct the controller and accounting team to ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.

Maintain internal controls, financial procedures, and manage all financial audits, tax returns, and CPA firm relationships.

Finance

Direct the preparation of annual operating, strategic, and capital budgets with stakeholders.

Manage financial contract deliverables, cash flow, and forecasting; optimize banking relationships and investments.

Develop predictive financial models and activity‑based analysis for operational insight.

Provide merger and acquisition expertise in the non‑profit environment.

Ensure legal and regulatory compliance of all financial functions and oversee government grant accounting.

Administration

Partner on lease negotiations and create financial statements and budget documents.

Participate in corporate policy development and other duties as assigned.

Other Leadership Responsibilities

Procure specialized finance IT systems and lead staff in mission‑aligned behavior.

Contribute to SLT and Board deliberations and decisions, collaborating with COO and other SLT members.

Model professional behavior, provide feedback to the CEO, and conduct annual performance appraisals with staff.

Establish job descriptions and support staff development, ensuring dignity, respect, and conflict resolution.

Minimum Requirements

BS required; MBA and/or CPA preferred.

At least 5 years experience as CFO or Vice President reporting to the CEO, preferably in a nonprofit or manufacturing organization.

At least 10 years progressive experience in senior financial‑management roles, including partnership with executive staff and implementation of creative financial strategies.

Significant experience with nonprofit accounting and compliance for federal, state, and local governments and private grants.

In‑depth experience with GAAP; OMB Circulars A‑133, A‑110, and A‑122; and applicable CFR sections.

Up to date on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal laws governing nonprofit operations.

Up to 20% travel anticipated.

Experience in cost accounting and a manufacturing environment.

Experience with Oracle Fusion ERP system implementations (plus).

Experience organizing the accounting and finance team around business units.

Strong business acumen and experience building efficient accounting and finance organizations.

Strong analytical skills and ability to translate a strategic vision into an operational model.

Professional representation of the organization to financial partners, auditors, and public officials.

Effective written and verbal communication.

Collaborative leader who partners with the CEO, COO, and leadership team; works well with business unit heads and supports sustainable growth.

Strategic thinker who works tactically with business units, providing financial leadership.
