Molding Manufacturing Engineer
About the Role
We’re seeking a
Molding Manufacturing Engineer
to support all injection molding operations at our Libertyville facility. This role focuses on reducing scrap and setup times, optimizing cycle times, and validating materials, molds, and presses — all while driving continuous improvement and manufacturing excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and establish robust process windows using
Scientific Molding
and
Design of Experiments (DOE)
techniques.
Troubleshoot and optimize molding/manufacturing processes to prevent and correct production defects.
Evaluate and improve manufacturing methods to enhance efficiency, workflow, and equipment utilization.
Lead
process validation ,
capability analysis , and
root cause investigations
to ensure process robustness.
Collaborate with production and engineering teams to develop
work instructions ,
setup documentation , and
process improvements .
Design or enhance equipment layouts for maximum efficiency and compliance with cGMP standards.
Coordinate maintenance, process improvement, and validation activities across the molding area.
Support new equipment development — including writing specifications, defining maintenance requirements, and troubleshooting equipment issues.
Participate in risk assessments, FMEA updates, control plan development, and documentation of technical procedures.
Partner with customers and internal stakeholders on product specifications, tooling design, and production readiness.
Qualifications
5+ years
of hands‑on experience in
injection molding
(required).
Strong knowledge of injection molding presses (hydraulic & electric), mold design, and related processing equipment.
Experience with molding‑grade plastics such as
Polypropylene, Polycarbonate, ABS, and Nylon .
Familiarity with
RJG principles ;
RJG Master Molder Certification
preferred.
Experience with
EOAT (End of Arm Tooling)
and
six‑axis robot programming
preferred.
Skilled in
DOE, process validation, and continuous improvement methodologies .
Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills with a focus on data‑driven decision‑making.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of
statistical methods ,
process optimization , and
technical documentation
(URS, SOPs, Risk Assessments).
Experience supporting
GMP‑compliant
manufacturing environments.
Ability to collaborate across engineering, production, and quality teams.
