The quality engineer is responsible for ensuring that all plastic products meet customer specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. This role focuses on maintaining and improving the plant's quality systems, supporting production with problem solving, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance with ISO/IATF standards and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance processes and procedures for plastic manufacturing operations (injection molding, extrusion, thermoforming, etc.).

Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for internal and customer-reported issues.

Monitor production quality performance through statistical process control (SPC), capability studies, and other analytical tools.

Lead quality audits (internal, supplier, and customer) and ensure compliance with ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 or other relevant standards.

Collaborate with design, tooling, and production teams to ensure new products and processes meet quality requirements during PPAP and APQP phases.

Manage and maintain control plans, FMEAs, inspection instructions, and other quality documentation.

Support incoming material inspection, supplier qualification, and supplier quality improvement initiatives.

Train operators and technicians in quality standards, inspection methods, and documentation practices.

Collect and analyze data to identify trends, drive continuous improvement, and reduce scrap and rework.

Interface directly with customers regarding quality performance, non-conformances, and improvement plans.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or related field.

3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably plastics (injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, etc.).

Strong knowledge of quality systems, SPC, MSA, PPAP, FMEA, APQP, and control plan development.

Experience with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or equivalent quality management systems.

Proficiency in quality tools and software (e.g., Minitab, QMS, ERP systems).

Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Six Sigma Green Belt or CQE certification (preferred).
